SLN88 2 Posted June 3 Posted June 3 I have the free version of Evernote running on Windows 11 with an i7 processor and 32 GB of RAM. The lagging makes it literally unusable. I now have to take notes in Word, then paste them over to Evernote, which is not a workable situation. I've removed the spell check option which is supposed to help with lagging, but the lag is still brutal. If it helps, I've been an Evernote user for about 10 years so I am grandfathered in with respect to # of notes and have way more than the 50 or whatever the max is when using the free version. I tried to migrate to OneNote instead, but with the migration tool no longer available and with other migration options not working, copying and pasting hundreds of notes from Evernote to OneNote, which requires finding pictures/snips one by one and placing them where they belong is not a workable option. Would this lagging issue be solved if I were using a paid version of Evernote? Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
VincentC 387 Posted June 3 Posted June 3 First, can we assume that this is not a new installation of the Windows client? If it is a new installation, it will take Evernote a while to synch the local database with the server. Assuming that's not the issue, have you tried using the web version by logging on at Evernote.com, rather than using the Windows client? Does the web version work reasonably well? If so, it seems likely that your local database on your Windows machine is corrupted or you have a bad installation of the Windows app. You could try signing out from the Windows app (File/sign out) and tick the box "remove my Evernote data from this device." Then reboot your computer, download the latest version of the app from the Evernote site, install it, and start it. Evernote should then start to download a new copy of your data. While it does this, Evernote will be slower than normal but this will get better after a while. But this may not be enough. If the problem is still there, you should completely uninstall Evernote using Revo Uninstaller, removing everything. Then download the latest and reinstall. There are posts with more detail here on the forum if you want to search around. Vinnie 1
SLN88 2 Posted June 4 Author Posted June 4 Thank you for the info, VincentC! It is NOT a new installation of the Windows client - been using it for a couple, if not several, months. I used the web version as suggested and did not see a lag. I signed out and ticked the "remove my..." box then restarted my laptop, then I removed/uninstalled Evernote and restarted my laptop, then installed the latest version of Evernote and restarted my laptop again. I forgot about your suggestion to use Revo Uninstaller and hope that's not an issue. At the moment, the Windows client won't sign in for some reason, while I am able to sign in on my browser. My only guess is that Evernote defaults to "Brave" browser which is causing the issue of the client never signing in. Any additional suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Jon/t 1,745 Posted June 4 Posted June 4 When you log into the Evernote it will use your default web browser for the login. You'll need to make sure ad blockers/trackers etc are not interferring.
VincentC 387 Posted June 4 Posted June 4 What @Jon/t said... And there were issues reported recently with the Brave browser and an update released by Brave to address them, so make sure you've got the latest Brave browser addition.
SLN88 2 Posted June 4 Author Posted June 4 Thanks, VincentC and Jon/t. I changed the default browser and was able to log in. Will let you all know how the Windows Client performs. Thanks again for the help!

It performs a deeper clean of some of the Evernote files and registry entries that can cause these kinds of issues and which aren't removed with standard Windows uninstall. 1
SLN88 2 Posted June 4 Author Posted June 4 agsteele: Understood. Is the PRO version needed? Or would the FREEWARE be sufficient.
bmcl26 592 Posted June 4 Posted June 4 @SLN88 Also, Brave Browser has been updated, the current version should be 1.66.118 Chromium 125.0.6422147 (64 Bit) and Web Clipper is now working normally. 2
SLN88 2 Posted June 12 Author Posted June 12 Thank you all for the suggestions! I've tried without using Revo Uninstaller and Evernote is rather slow again. I'll try the Revo Uninstaller route and see if that fixes the lag issues.
SLN88 2 Posted July 1 Author Posted July 1 Still slow at times. I think it may be for the larger notes it starts to slow down. I prefer keeping related notes in a single note. This may mean I need to switch to OneNote, but with the migration tool no longer available any suggestions? I did try a test with a 3rd party migration tool but it did not work.
Level 5 PinkElephant 9,004 Posted July 1 Level 5 Posted July 1 Sure you prefer to keep "related notes in a single note". There is hardly a different strategy on a Free account, with a cap of 50 notes. For a subscriber the solution is simply to link up related notes, create a TOC note, etc. The Free account is not made for long term use, it is in fact a trial only. Subscribe, or move to another solution.
