Apple Mail message links no longer work in Evernote desktop app for Mac

Recommended Posts

Since updating to the latest version, links to open an email message directly in the apple mail app no longer work in the Evernote desktop app.  I create these links by dragging the message from apple mail directly into the body of an Evernote note, which creates a link with the email message title as the text.

The same links in the same notes still work fine in the browser and iOS versions of Evernote.  I worked with apple support to make sure it wasn’t on the Mac end.  Even when copy/pasting the link url from Evernote to other apps, they worked.  It is only in the Evernote Mac desktop app that these links suddenly don’t work.

I use this feature heavily in my workflow and it is a huge blow to have an important tool I’ve relied on for years suddenly gone, rendering hundreds of notes basically useless.  Anyone experiencing the same?

I'm experiencing the same problem, but on MacOS. Also started when updating to a new version, in my case 10.75.2 and 10.76.2. Sure would like to see a fix.

Tried re-installing Evernote and rebooting, no effect.

Same problem here.  I also use Hookmark to create links and those no longer work either.  Like you, it is only on the Mac desktop app.  Links work as expected from web and the iOS app.  I sent a message to Evernote support last week and haven't received a response.

Alas, this is not limited to mail URI's.. all URIs other than https://, http://, and file:// do not work where they did before.  Some examples include tel:, busycalevent:, busycontact:, x-soulver:.

I sent this bug complaint to Evernote last week

Quote

As of now I can't complete my work rituals since Evernote (with the latest patch) has disabled outgoing application links to other apps (such as Apple Notes, Calendar, Things 3) and so on. I hope this will be fixed within a matter of a day cos I can't do my work right now, and I'll cancel my subscription if this crucial bug is not addressed immediately.

The bla-bla-bla feedback I received seemed disappointingly generic, akin to an automated response sent to everyone, regardless of the specific details of their bug complaint:

If you have any further questions or if there's anything else we can assist you with, please don't hesitate to reach out.

I can't understand why I endure this treatment when I pay a small fortune for Evernote. They just increased the price by 100% and then offer me a useless product? Guess it's time to move on.

Support has evidently been overloaded since BS took over the company.  I, and many others, think this is bad, given the professional positioning they have for Evernote. I don't find the product useless and I am hopeful things will continue to (generally) improve.

This bug was reported, resolved, and has now recurred.  I too have submitted a bug report including an ENEX file with the issue.  Hopefully, they will fix the regression soon.

Hello,

I agree with the above concerns.

I am no longer able to use HookMark links or DevonThink links in Evernote.

I would greatly value having this functionality back.

Thank you.

Despite several Evernote updates per week, this devastating bug persists. Seriously, WTF? Without clickable outgoing links to other macOS applications, Evernote is utterly useless to me - so right now, I'm just flushing 100 dollars down the drain. 🤯🤯

OMG, not the PinkElephant again 🙄 ... always interferes on behalf of Evernote 10.0, never ever provides any solutions. Just being the the company's brown-noser...

As you very well know contacting support - even as a Premium user - doesn't help a bit. All you get is a generic response that doesn't even address your issue. As you can see in this thread, I've already contacted Evernote regarding this bug to no avail.

And a lot of users use application links such as HookMark, Devonthink and so on. The idea of even disabling these outgoing links is completely insane. But one thing is for sure; if they don't fix this, I will not renew my Premium subscription later this spring. Right now I have to use Apple Note for all my work because outgoing application links have been disabled. If at least Evernote Legacy would have been continued (all the links still work there), I could have continued my work from there.

Is there any update on whether this is simply a bug or removed functionality? I moved to using Apple Notes for the past few months but would prefer to start using Evernote again if this issue is fixed...

Every week, Evernote releases updates with new flashy, nice-to-have features, but they still haven't fixed the critical bug that prevents outgoing links from working. WTF Evernote!!?? It's a MUST HAVE feature that one can access outgoing links in a NOTE APP such as Evernote.

Same here. I wrote to the SUPPORT more than one time. I uploaded a video for the same problem, nothing happened.

We are an Architectural Buro with 5 Evernote Accounts and it killed our Workflow since February. The main reason why we chose Evernote, was the ability to collect all Information in one Note: PDF, JPEG, E-mail Links, intern Evernote-Links.

I don't understand why this problem happens to be just with Mac Desktop App.

This may have to do with Apple adjusting their security model.  I use Dropzone as a drop target and then move things from there into Evernote.  Not using Apple Mail so I don’t know if that is your problem but I think it is likely.  You can probably test it by dragging mail to desktop, then dragging the resulting icon into Evernote.

Dave Green, your suggestion works. Thank you for that work-around.

I still feel that Evernote should talk to Apple to do something about this.

I just found a way to manage to use this "drag an drop" function :

Right clic on the mail in Evernote and "URL Copy".

Then, on safari : paste the url in the navigator.

The mail then opens juste like before...

Are there maybe any news on this? It was still one of the greatest Evernote features before these amateurs started some AI features...

AI features (a customer request) are transparent to users unless you opt into them,  and recent posts here suggest links (which are a different topic) are no longer an issue.  WHat exactly are you experiencing?
