Issue with Image Display in Notes Across Web, Windows, Android, and iOS

wasin

Idea

I mistakenly posted this message in the General Discussion section instead of the intended General Technical Issues section. So I have moved it here so that someone can help me.

I'm experiencing an issue where some images in my notes are not displaying on the web version, Windows application, Android, and iOS. Instead of the images, I see the title accompanied by a warning sign. I'm unable to perform any actions on them, such as viewing or downloading.

I've attempted to restore the notes to a previous version, but the problem persists. Has anyone encountered a similar issue or found a solution to this?

Thanks,

You can see the problem in the image below

If the pictures don't show on the web client either, it is usually a sign that the picture has not synced to the server.

When you create a note, the note body is synced first. The attachments like pictures, pdfs and other files will sync after this. If syncing is interrupted, it may be the attachments have not yet reached the server. Instead of the picture, only a placeholder will show, that can't be opened.

Often this can be healed when going to the client where the note was originally created, and ensure a complete sync from there. If this doesn't work, the best way is to recreate the note a second time. Especially when on a slow internet connection always wait to allow all content to be synced before closing the app.

Thank you for your response. It seems peculiar to me that the synchronization hasn't occurred, considering this note was created three years ago, and I've been using it regularly without any issues until now. Previously, the images were displaying correctly, but currently, they seem to be missing. I have attempted to go back to the client where the note was originally created and ensure a complete sync, but unfortunately, the issue persists.

Recreating the note could be a viable solution but I don’t even remember the images that were attached to it.

We’re the notes created with legacy ?

When such notes are opened for the first time with v10 / RTE, they must be converted. This takes several seconds, and eventually the attached files show up

I don't recall if the notes were created with the legacy version. They are dated January 2021 and were created using the Evernote web platform. I am a teacher, and I use these notes for work as they contain summaries of the topics I need to teach. In previous years, when utilizing these notes, I haven't noticed any missing images. I have waited for minutes to see if the attached images show up but they don't. I don't know if there is some way to get this images back by  restoring the notes or doing something.

I appreciate your help PinkElephant.

Notes created in January of 2021 are definitely in the older format and will need to be converted the first time you open them.  If you're on version 10 now, that conversion is a one-time thing and you should be back to normal once that initial problem resolves itself, which it should eventually if the conversion is the cause.  If you are using Legacy and version 10 in parallel, though, the note will need to be converted back to the old format for Legacy and all of that back-and-forth cannot be good, IMO.

Thanks for the information. I don't know how to do it. Could you please guide me on how to convert the notes to the new format in version 10? I want to make sure I do it correctly and avoid any potential issues with the conversion process.

The conversion happens automatically when you open a note using the v10 apps. So nothing for you to do.

Thanks for the clarification. It seems the conversion didn't go as expected, as the images are not loading when I open the note. Is there an alternative method to recover the images that are not loading?

Check on the web client first that the images are available there.

If they are available there, it may be an issue of the download. If they are missing on the web as well, you can check in note history if you can recover them from history.

Also, depending on the speed of your Internet connection, and the number and size of the notes you have, it can take a while to sync.  Sometimes a few days.  So, this could be one case where it might be better to wait a bit than to start trying things, which then would also have to sync, etc.

I'm experiencing this too. I created an entirely new note on the latest version. In the note is a single 3MB JPG.

Using a shared link the image doesn't appear on a web page. The image does appear in the web version of EN.

Seems to be happening for all my notes shared as web pages.

They are not avaliable anywhere.

Could you please clarify what you mean by "a few days"? Should I open the note and keep it active? I have been using the application on Windows for several years every day, where I typically create my notes. The web and mobile apps (Android and iOS) are mainly used for reference purposes. Regarding the internet connection, I have a 500mb fiber connection, so I don't believe that should be an issue.

Thank you

If they are not available on the web client, and not available in note history either, then they were not saved to the note.

May be bad, but the web client is the view at the master copy on the cloud server. There is no digging behind it.

@wasin, given what you are describing, and given the comment from  @PinkElephant

who is far more knowledgeable than me, I think you will need help from support to figure out what has happened or is happening.

@tsnouffer, based on your description, your problem seems to be different than the one that @wasin is reporting.  It would be helpful for the knowledgeable folks here to have more specific information so they can offer some specific suggestions.  For instance, what specific Evernote client(s) and  version(s) you are using (simply saying "latest version" isn't enough - you may not have the latest version for whatever reason), did you get that version via direct download from the Evernote site or from the Apple / Windows / Play / etc. store,  what browser you are using for the web client, and, maybe especially, what specific steps are you taking to share the note.

I myself don't use the share via web features very much so it's not likely that I will be able to offer suggestions, but others here very well may be able to.  But they need all this information to offer the best advice.

I have the same problem, it's showing in the web but then when I share the link to share it with others, it doesn't work and it hides the images.

I appreciate your help @PinkElephant and @VincentC. When I check the notes in the history, I have the same issue, and the images are not loading. I'm pretty sure that they used to load before, as I would have noticed if they weren't. I'm concerned that this might happen with other notes or future ones, as I invest a considerable amount of effort in creating them, and I need a reliable program.

Support came back to me (very fast, only 2 days) and told the problem on my account is solved.

Now I can’t tell if something needs to be done per account, or if they fixed something in general. Maybe give it a new try. If it’s by account, you need to go through support as well.
