On Mac - how do I get screen captures for evernote that can be saved as a more compressed format than .png?

For Evernote on a mac...

My notes are large files, because I have a lot of screenshots in them. I typically use a cmd-ctrl-shift-4 keystroke to grab a screenshot to clipboard and paste to evernote. But, given the apple clipboard/pasteboard saves only in a lossless format, pasting from it can only come out as a .png (in Evernote) or .tiff (some other programs).

Are there other efficient ways to save screen captures as a .jpg in evernote? I don't consider first saving a screen capture as a jpg file, then importing it into evernote an efficient workflow.

Thanks, but the Apple clipboard/pasteboard saves only in a lossless format (regardless of that setting), pasting from the clipboard it can only come out as a .png (in Evernote) or .tiff (some other programs).
