Grahamm 4 Posted November 24, 2023 Posted November 24, 2023 I've recently changed my phone from a Samsung Galaxy S9+ to an S10e. Now, when I set a reminder, instead of the discreet "beep" that I had previously, Evernote plays a noisy and intrusive little tune. I've tried changing the phone App Notification settings for Evernote from Allow Sound and Vibration to Silent without effect. I also tried changing the settings under Notification Categories from Alert to Silent but that didn't work, neither did changing the Alert sound to any of the other ones on the phone. So can anyone please offer me some advice on how to get Evernote Reminders without it playing that annoying tune?
Evernote Expert agsteele 3,074 Posted November 24, 2023 Evernote Expert Posted November 24, 2023 My sounds from Evernote are a subtle ding. That seems to be something chosen by my device in the first instance. On my device: Settings, Apps, App Management, Evernote, Manage Notifications, Push Notifications.
Grahamm 4 Posted November 24, 2023 Author Posted November 24, 2023 @agsteele I've tried that, I've changed the Notification Sound, I've tried setting them to Silent, yet still Evernote persists in playing a tune when a Reminder is due ☹️
Evernote Expert agsteele 3,074 Posted November 24, 2023 Evernote Expert Posted November 24, 2023 I can't advise further. It is no comfort to know things work differently for another user on a different device. Since it worked on your previous device and this is an issue with the new phone Is be exploring the issue from the Samsung end. Of course, if you have subscription you can raise a support ticket. That may take you to two weeks since support tickets are busy.
Grahamm 4 Posted November 24, 2023 Author Posted November 24, 2023 Thanks for your help. The problem mostly is that I cannot even *find* that tune it plays as part of the Samsung default notifications, so I presumed it had to be something to do with Evernote, because no other App that I've got plays it. My only solution is to switch off the Evernote Reminder notifications entirely, but that rather defeats the purpose of having it in the first place ☹️
Level 5 PinkElephant 9,004 Posted November 24, 2023 Level 5 Posted November 24, 2023 This seems to be a rather Samsung-ish problem that you are posting here. Maybe ask their support for a change ?
Grahamm 4 Posted November 25, 2023 Author Posted November 25, 2023 The thing is, it *only* happens with Evernote reminder notifications. If it was a Samsung problem, it would happen with other Apps. I've managed to capture the tune it plays. As you can tell, having this jingling away when all you want is a discreet beep is a bit annoying! Has anyone else heard this from any App or Evernote? (PS I've tried uploading it to a couple of "Identify this song" sites, but it's not been recognised by them)
Evernote Expert agsteele 3,074 Posted November 25, 2023 Evernote Expert Posted November 25, 2023 Not a tune I've ever heard. Have you tried a complete uninstall, restart the phone and then reinstall?
Grahamm 4 Posted November 25, 2023 Author Posted November 25, 2023 I dislike that as a solution to problems (it strikes me as a brute force approach which doesn't actually find the cause), but I may have to do that if I can't find any other solution 😕
Evernote Expert agsteele 3,074 Posted November 25, 2023 Evernote Expert Posted November 25, 2023 Yes, but sometimes its quicker and less painful
Grahamm 4 Posted November 25, 2023 Author Posted November 25, 2023 True, but it only makes the problem go away, rather than actually solving it. Unfortunately, having tried uninstalling and re-installing, the problem *hasn't* gone away and it still plays that annoying tune for a reminder. I like Evernote and don't want to switch to another app, but if I can't use Reminders in the way I want, I'm going to have to consider it... 😕 PS I've tried searching through all the phone's audio files, but I can't find that tune anywhere.
Evernote Expert agsteele 3,074 Posted November 25, 2023 Evernote Expert Posted November 25, 2023 To my knowledge, the Evernote app doesn't carry any audio files with it. So this is something being picked up from within your device.
Grahamm 4 Posted November 25, 2023 Author Posted November 25, 2023 This is intensely frustrating. I've changed all the settings for Evernote Reminder Notifications, but still this tune plays, yet I can't find where it's coming from. I don't know why it worked fine on my S9+, but the S10e is behaving completely differently. I can't even find the original music file which I could delete or over-write it, possibly with the sound of me banging my head on the desk... 😡
Level 5 PinkElephant 9,004 Posted November 25, 2023 Level 5 Posted November 25, 2023 I really don’t get the huzzzzza over a jingle. But you need to contact support to find out, once you are done with headbanging.

That's definitely it, thank you! 👍 Unfortunately even with that name to identify it, it doesn't appear to exist on my phone, Very curious, but at least it gives me something more to go on ADDENDUM: Ok, I've found it listed under the Phone App ring tones, but I can't find the actual file. I'll do some more searching...

I've finally tracked down what the cause was and fixed it. I have an App called Message Notifier Pro which allows me to "intercept" notifications from Apps that don't allow you to change the notifications they use, because I didn't want Evernote to use my default notification sound (Tejat) which I use for when I get text messages. I'd set it to "Beep Once" on my S9+, but somewhere between then and the migration of my phone data (using Samsung Smart Switch) to the S10e, somehow a setting must have got corrupted and, even though it still said "Beep Once", when I actually hit Play on the sound (which I hadn't actually checked previously), it started churning out the Orbit Ringtone instead. I've now deleted Evernote from Message Notifier Pro and reset it so I get the single beep again. My thanks to everyone who provided helpful advice in this thread 👍 3
