ThomasStraten 0
Dear all,It seems that a great deal of work has been done on the Iphone interface. We are still unable to edit our notes, but I suppose it will come as a natural following step.1- What does not work at all is the querying system as it ONLY admit AND conditions.2- If you try to WRITE a search instead and use the ANY: keyword as in the web or dektop version, it will NOT work at all as it is considered actually as a normal and plain word, written as any:* These two points will make lots of saved search unusable on the Iphone, and is obviously more than limiting.(I insist that the and/any solution is, de facto, limiting if there is no way to use grouping of conditions, normally with () ... ) . But this is not the point here, what matters is in 1 and 2There is inconsistency between platforms in the way searches have to be written and it is indeed very frustrating to obtain results on one platform and zero on others.RegardsTom Link to comment
patnpm 30
rather than create a separate thread......audio notes opened on the iphone cause it to seize up. Link to comment
iafanasyev 1
I admit that we have yet much homework to do to make search consistent across clients.iPhone interface is primarily used to quickly find a particular note or two among thousands of others. That's why it is optimized for the 'AND'-style of searching, when each next search criteria, or tag, or attribute allows you to narrow down your search results and finally get you the the set of a dozen notes which you can visually browse. The search box in any UI (and iPhone or mobile versions are no exceptions) should allow for fully qualified search syntax with all modifiers, that's for sure.Besides, how do you personally use 'ANY'-style queries on the iPhone (besides running the previously defined saved searches)? What's the use case? Link to comment
ThomasStraten 0
iafanasiev say: Besides, how do you personally use 'ANY'-style queries on the iPhone (besides running the previously defined saved searches)? What's the use case?Let's say i have a notebook "Recipe"..... (yuck!!! but it is as example only)I can have a tag organisation likeTags..Recipe....Meat......Red........Cow_Ox......White........Veal........Pork........Poultry........Chicken....Sea_Water......Salmon......Trout......Other........Shrimp....Country......India......America......Asian........Japan........Chinese......Marrocco......Europe........France........Belgium........German....KindOf......Hamburger......HotDog......Sandwich......Entrance......Maindish......Dessert......Bakery....Price......Cheap......Medium......Expensive......Very expensive....Cooking......Grill......Steam......Wok....Spicy......None......Hot......Medium......Very hot ......... and any other tag you wish to create as, if you look into a real recipe book, you will see that the search possibilities are not that good without tagging..... try to search for "steak", will you get "chateaubriand, côte à l'os, filet mignon"???? NO.... If you don't remember how to spell "croissant", a search for croi* will give you tons of answers where croissant will only appear two or three times as croi is part of the verb croire in french and is extensively use in nice and sympathetic texts like " je crois que l'influence.....la croix de bois, croire en ce qu'on fait, je croyais que c'était Belge mais.... etc.....SO... I USE TAGS!!!Give me my cheap recipes of french or belgian sandwiches (whatever they are called) will not workI wish medium to expensive red meat recipes (will not work)I desire my entrances from Asian countries (will only work if i tag all countries as Asian is a 0 note tag (just a Parent) and I have no entrances coming from Japan AND Chinese AND Marroco-------(quite impossible as a recipe is from Japan OR China OR Marroco by essence!!!!)I already mentionned several times that AND/ANY is very (very) limiting unless you include a grouping possibility with () for instance. But having only the AND condition???? Ridiculous!!!And no negation.....????All my fish asian or indian Not spicy (none) no shrimp (allergy) maindishes steamed or wok.... NOT WORKING!!!!!!!!!!!I am sure that recipe users will not be as sophisticated taggers as I am.... but what if I use tagging for my work? Will I not be developping a sort of sophistication there? You say again:That's why it is optimized for the 'AND'-style of searching, when each next search criteria, or tag, or attribute allows you to narrow down your search results and finally get you the the set of a dozen notes which you can visually browse.False impression..... Simply not working in the examples I gave here above !!!A continuous AND search (or incremental (reducing)) AND only search will not give you the result you expect. And the risk of NEVER reaching lots of notes that could be also of interest is very high.Any: case is not usable on IphoneSaved Search in most case will not work on Iphone (and neither on the Mobile, Web or Iphone in most cases)Only 2.2.1 will give you the simplicity and ease of use.......Beta 3 will give you zip or headaches (as it is for now). I am sorry to say so, but it is the truth for the time beeing.I sincerely hope you realize the tremendous step back that beta 3 means. (not for the Web, for usefullness and simple "good" retrieval possibilities)The Desktop version is the one that works best (alas!!! not even close to 2.2.1), try to reproduce at least that behavior on the WEB, on Mobile (or Iphone) and Mac. What is the use of keeping searches if they only work on the desktop??? (I can give you example of that also, that is why I am betatesting)And why do I put my betatesting on the forum? Because I never get an answer to the feedbacks I have sent. And because it might be useful to share my testing with other betatesters with other platforms (mac for instance).Am I mad? NO.... I desire EN3 to be the best.... and obviously a step ahead from 2.2.1 Is it not a call of attention that:Power users are not participating in forum anymore (or so little)Congratulations are so rareHeadaches and problems are so populating the forumGeneral participation in the forum seem to get less and less.I am afraid for the future of EN3 (and the loss of 2.2.1) as the 1,000,000 fellows who try Beta 3 will soon abandon it because it doesn't work, and obviously will not be tempted by 2.2.1 (why or how should they know that a previous version is far superior to the newest one???)It seem to me that your efforts are too splitted (my god, my english!!!) meaning you work too much on different things at the same time., I would strongly suggest to focus first on one system then copy its functionality in the others...But, please, rework stuff from scratch!!!! (Is it a problem with the new database SQLite? a bad tree programming? No more tree programming?)RegardsTom Link to comment
ThomasStraten 0
Other small problem with IphoneWe are abliged to sign up nearly all the time, from going to one topic to another, etc.... it is really a problem (that we don't have on the web access from the desktop)We normally have to sign-up once and that's it for the whole session...but on Iphone we must login and login and login. Is there a way to correct this?ThanksTom Link to comment
