janndk 693 Posted July 23, 2023 Posted July 23, 2023 After update to 10.59.5 tags stopped working properly. Sometimes finds only one note per tag (tags used in several notes). Occasionally "include subtags" doesn't work, and occasionally "include suntags" gives an error message... Anybody else experiencing this? I'm getting really really really tired of this. Every update comes with new bugs. Total madness. 🥴 1 5

Evernote is very difficult to replace - have tried several times - but now it's simply getting far too buggy, and clearly can't be trusted anymore. You never know what's functioning and what's not, and what's going to break down the next day. Very sad. 😢 1 5

Both have full E2EE AES 256 encryption, a big plus. 1
Level 5 PinkElephant 9,019 Posted July 23, 2023 Level 5 Posted July 23, 2023 EN data on the server is AES encrypted. During transfer it's protected by TLS/SSL, a safe encryption standard as well. A big plus ....
HeBoIz 247 Posted July 23, 2023 Posted July 23, 2023 Unfortunately this is another big plus for legacy: not at all affected by not finally tested and QA‘d updates to v10 app-versions for Windows or Mac 😜 (just working, for the time being…)

Obsidian or joplin employees can not access your data due to full E2EE with your own private password.
Level 5 PinkElephant 9,019 Posted July 23, 2023 Level 5 Posted July 23, 2023 And due to this fact, it does NO OCR, never. What's nice in one aspect is a bummer in another. P.S. The data protection rules of EN clearly say that no person will ever access a users data. Only bots will access the data, to run OCR, search index and similar tasks. Since EN has relocated to the EU, the fine for data protection violations can be steep, up to 10% of yearly sales. Ask Meta, they can tell you stories about it. 2

Just got a message that the refund is finally on the way. My account has already been converted to "free". Now I have a huge task to find and form a new workflow outside Evernote, but can't really see any other option as Evernote has simply gotten too buggy to be trusted anymore. Probably checking the situation from time to time, and hoping for the best, but unfortunately I don't really believe all these problems will get solved in the foreseeable future. It's a pity. Evernote is a wonderful vision - so sad it doesn't work in real life. 😭 4

The core app is great, but is limited to functionality that supports entering your own text notes. The moment you want to clip web information, really leverage PDF, or manage project tasks, you have to start adding in several plugins. Individually, htese work, but often miss the features you are used to in dedicated apps. And integration with each other is limited, and where it should work, you will run into bugs. Syncing across devices, especially when using plugins (eg reminders) does not work smoothly. You will not likely ever loose data - its stored locally as Markup text files (except tasks), but you will often lose your ability to access your data in the way you spent so many hours building... (Notion is also cool, but be aware, your data is not stored locally, so the moment you are offline, you cannot use Notion in any serious way anymore)
Level 5 jbenson2 2,149 Posted July 31, 2023 Level 5 Posted July 31, 2023 Tag: is no longer working for me. I have been away from my Evernote account for the past 6 months (cancer) I started re-using simple Evernote commands and the tag: function has stopped working. I tried File / Sign out and Log back in. Any suggestions? Currently, I have 41,110 notes 10.59.5-win-ddl-public (5236) Editor: v174.13.3 Service: v1.70.3

Does it return nothing, only a incomplete list of notes or too many notes? 10.59.5 often (not everytime) has problems when searching for words - maybe also when using tags because it seems to loose permissions to some notebooks 😞. In this case, an error message pops up - do you see any error message? If permission is lost, a search returns inadequate results (nothing or too many notes...). Unfortunatlely it takes a long time to sync all notes to your local computer (sometimes days...). And there is not indicator that informs you about the sync state (in %, # of notes or whatever). So maybe your maschine isn't synced so far... Normally this should not be a problem because the tag index is maintained also on server site and an EN client has to contact server data if local data is incomplete. My suggestion is: Wait some time get your data synced ->Restart your test. Describe effects more in detail -> Come back to here Contact support (with more details) -> Come back to here and tell us results Use an older version (10.58.x, Legacy) - the harder (but maybe most reliable) way 😉)
Level 5 jbenson2 2,149 Posted July 31, 2023 Level 5 Posted July 31, 2023 AlbertR Q: That means? Does it return nothing, only a incomplete list of notes or too many notes? A: It returns the entire database of 41,110 notes Q: do you see any error message? A: No error message appears for the search involving tag: or intitle: or even just text. Q: So maybe your maschine isn't synced so far... A: that might be a possibility - not showing the sync status is a frustrating situation Even though I have the premium subscription status, I dread contacting support. They are the worst. Going back to the Legacy version might be a possibility, but also frustrating.

"Normally" the "permission lost" error message comes up just before every search finds all 🤔 [incomplete sync] might be a possibility - not showing the sync status is a frustrating situation Yep - just testing on an iPad. Here I see some sync info (progress bar around my account icon and rotating dotted rings on notebook that seem to be synced currently). But this info is misleading: progress bar disappeared - so I'm ready? No: There are some rotating rings and the app seems to be frozen ☹... simply unusable ... Even though I have the premium subscription status, I dread contacting support. They are the worst. Don't use "they" if you have made bad experiences with "one"... I'd give them a chance. I made good experiences during the last weeks. They're the only one that might help by going into your log files (if needed). Describe your findings and add a link to this discussion to avoid stupid questions fo the first line 😉 Going back to the Legacy version might be a possibility, but also frustrating. Why frustrating? If you really need access to all your notes and want to avoid further pain with current EN10, it's a good solution 👍 1
Level 5 jbenson2 2,149 Posted August 2, 2023 Level 5 Posted August 2, 2023 AlbertR Thank you. I think the long time to sync might be the problem. If I skip the search feature and open all the tags (the list of tags), I can find my specific note. With 41,000 notes covering the past 10+ years, I've got a lot of different tags. I've been using Evernote since 2012 and have gone through challenges with a variety of support people. Why? Because I use Evernote in a manner different from the way they wanted me to use it. For instance, I would install appointments in the future on the day the appt was due. I lived on the Legacy version for several years after Evernote moved on. Eventually, I realized that I should upgrade and I had to change many of my existing notes. The support people never mentioned I could run both versions at the same time. I will keep Evernote open for a few more days to see if this is just a sync problem. If the problem continues, I will follow your advice - 1.) contact support and 2.) install the Legacy version. Thanks again.
Mike P 3,076 Posted August 2, 2023 Posted August 2, 2023 I've deliberately not been using 10.59.5 very much, but after a brief attempt I've just noticed a new tag behaviour that I don't recall anybody else reporting. We know, that for those of us affected, selecting tags from the sidebar, the filter menu or the main tags pop out window requires two clicks. We also know that searching for and selecting a tag in the main search bar is also, at best, unreliable. If you attempt to filter by tag using the pop up menu from a tag at the bottom of a note it also doesn't always work first time. Sometimes it moves the focus to a different note in the list and if you then go and find the original note, the second attempt repeats the process - ie you just cannot select that tag in this way. Something which has been noted in passing in other posts is the power of ctrl+R (refresh). For me doing a ctrl+R always results in the next tag click etc being successful. It also removes "phantom tags" where the search drop down says the tag has been selected but it clearly hasn't been. An example of what I'm calling a "phantom tag" from another post. The search menu says $pinned has been selected but there is no blue lozenge and all notes are being displayed. 1

After a few days, I realized that the problem was somewhere else. So I decided to try dropping back to the previous version. All my search techniques sprung back to action. (Notebook, tag:, intitle:,) Now I will see if there is a way to prevent the automatic updates. Thank you for your assistance.
