problem with using web clipper

Hi

I've been using the free version of evernote for maybe 15 years or so and in April I got a new mac mini. I ended up deleting a lot of notebooks and renamed my most important notebook from guitar to music. So basically I only ever use two notebooks.

The problem I'm having is that when I use web clipper now, it no longer puts my clippings into the right notebook. It worked fine for like 15 years. What happened?

Have a quick check of the web clipper settings. Could they have changed?

Check if you have set a notebook in web clipper that doesn’t exist any more. Or activated smart filing, by accident or intentionally.

Smart filing learns from your decisions - if you change frequently used notebooks, it needs to learn again.

I've never been in the web clipper settings before, I wasn't even aware they existed. So I have never changed anything in there.

In web clipper, both the Notebook destination and Tag selection are set to "Use smart filing". In the mac Evernote app, my default folder is _nickfox which has never changed. I did change the guitar notebook to music notebook but that was 3 months ago.

While I was in web clipper, I took a look at the log files and found these errors in red:

Log out in web clipper settings, quit the browser, log back in.

If this doesn't help, log out and uninstall the web clipper extension from the browser. Restart the computer, open the browser again and clean the browser cache. Reinstall the web clipper, log in.

Smart filing takes a lot of initial training - make sure the new clips didn't end up somewhere in your account.

I'm doing everything you suggested. I'm going to test it out for a few months and see how it works.

I'm far from knowledgeable enough to comment on your error messages but, in general, one user's perspective on smart filing: I've always found it to be not so smart, and more trouble than it's worth.  I have all smart filing turned off, and I tell clipper to just put the clip in my default inbox.  It's a matter of seconds to then move it where >I< want it.  With smart filing, too often I would have to go on a scavenger hunt to find what I saved.  Much less efficient, at least for me.

Same reason for me - correcting smart ass filing takes more time than doing it myself.
