Make search everywhere the default

ambrstr

Idea

Searching your notes is the worst UX. To have to constantly switch to "everywhere" in search with the mouse. Searching your broad database of notes should be the default top-level concept in a notes app. Please fix this!

Obviously you could use some input for searching
https://help.evernote.com/hc/en-us/articles/360040282613-Search-overview

  1. Start from a notebook view, this notebook is preselected. Start from „All notes“, no preselection. This was introduced because users asked for it deliberately !
  2. Click on a tag, and the tag is used as a filter
  3. Use the advanced search language if you want to drill deeper, than the filters allow
    https://help.evernote.com/hc/en-us/articles/208313828-How-to-use-Evernote-s-advanced-search-syntax
  4. Use full Boolean search for complex search requests (Professional and up)
  5. And last tool tip: You can save any search you need more often, and even pinnet to your shortcuts

I would like the option to decide what the default should be but I'm certainly not going to assume that I am right and everybody else is wrong. As @PinkElephant has described, searching within a notebook when you are in a notebook sounds quite logical.

If you don't want to use the mouse you can either go to notes before searching (alt+ctrl+2 and then alt+ctrl+F) or do two down errors and enter to shift the focus to "everywhere"

In addition to what has already been mentioned, another option is to use Cmd-J for searching (the "Switch To" command). This is my preferred method of searching quickly for recent items, tags, notes by title or searching all notes regardless of what notebook you are currently in.
