Suggestion for new type of element: copyable field

neversaynevernote

Idea

My suggestion is simple, a text element that has a copy icon beside it that when you click the icon it copies the text. I use Evernote to store a lot of text that I want to quickly copy and use. Having to always highlight that text and copy it is a bit annoying, would be much easier if I could just click a button and it's done for me.

Something like this:

Thank you and please let me know if you like this suggestion :)

I think this is a fairly specialised request. It could however be combined with having a button to copy the contents of a code box, which might have more general appeal.

Personally if I wanted this I would automate it myself, using AutoHotKey (other automation software is available). The following key sequence copies a paragraph (no line breaks) from a code block. Place the insertion point anywhere in the text to start. Then

{ctrl}{up}
{down}
{ctrl}{shift}{down}
{ctrl}c

Unfortunately this does not work for normal text as in EN {ctrl}{shift}{down} is the shortcut for subscript and can not be disabled or changed. Because there are no formatting options for text in a code block the key combination works to select the paragraph!

To select multiple paragraphs within the codeblock you would need to repeat  {ctrl}{shift}{down} several times. If you did it too many times it would toggle the first character of the text below the codeblock between normal and subscript text.

A more sophisticated approach might ferret around in the underlying html.

Hmmm, while I can see why it could be useful in some cases, perhaps this is more suited to a more specialized app? My password manager offers that feature, for example.

Well I would definitely find it useful in Evernote!

The problem is: This only works when there is a dedicated field. That’s how it is done in password managers, for example.

Would somebody want his notes broken down in individual fields, every one just one line of text ? Next line would not be Enter, but Add another field. Continuous writing as we know it would not be working any more, and all for the sake of being able to copy something with a click ?

I don’t think this makes sense.

What I would like to get is a „Copy this Link“ function, exclusively for the linking field. And maybe one at the code block, to copy the whole block. But there we already have dedicated fields.

If we got this feature for code blocks that would be good enough I think
