Hi.  It sounds like your installation has become corrupted.  That's really not expected behavious.  I'd recommend you uninstall the application using Revo Uninstaller Free (which will remove all traces of the app) and then restart your device and download and reinstall the app from Evernote.com.

The master copy is on the EN server. You can uninstall whatever client you want - after the reinstall and the login, it will draw a fresh copy from there. Only unsynced content will be lost when uninstalling. If anything is synced you can check in the web client (Free users beware: The web client counts as another device).
