MAKE EVERNOTE INDUSTRIAL QUALITY : EN Notebooks - multiple notebooks to have option for Opening in Local Drive or in Cloud with a facility to store cloud notebooks folder in local drive

Recommended Posts

Dear All,

I have a paid a/c of Evernote and Microsoft 365, including OneNote and with Onedrive.

1. To present logically I'm taking examples of my experience using OneNote and onedrive.

2. Creating a new notebook, in OneNote, provides an option, where to store i.e local drive or in onedrive.

  • Notebooks created in a local drive (e.g.C: or 'D:  ) do not need to be synced and are available locally every time
  • Even the locally opened notebooks are also accessible for opening, moving,   using file explorer i.e without even opening Onenote app
  • This is super useful since I have a surface pro and I prefer to carry it as a single device.
  • Evernote needs to provide similar option i.e Notebook storage on a local drive, which does not require synching, and the notebook properties display the same.

3. Creating a notebook in Cloud

  • Onenote provides an option, to create notebook in onedrive by selecting the drive ( i.e onedrive).
  • This is also displayed in the Notebook properties.
  • For notebooks created in Onedrive , it opens a local folder on my surface pro named c:Onedrive .....
  • every time when I work with my notebook (which is in Onedrive) , it updates my onedrive folder on Drive 'c: in the first instance, irrespective I'm connected to the Internet or not.
  • Subsequently, in the background, my onedrive folder on drive 'C: is synching to my onedrive folder in the cloud.
  • This helps to 100% accessibility & availability of notebooks on my surface pro ( i.e device on which my cloud notebook is created) whether it's synched or not synced , and whether I'm connected to the internet or not.
  • This is super-useful for a professional who works in the field, on a remote project where the internet connectivity as well as the quality of the network is a challenge.

4. Synching status window.

  • Onenote gives the option for synching a particular notebook or all notebooks, manual sync, or auto sync over the right click.
  • The synching dialogue box also gives synching progress similar to email synching and displays, complete sync or which particular notes shows a sync error.

5. TO SUMMERIZE EVERNOTE SHOULD AND PROVIDE FOLLOWING

A- Option for storage location (local drive / or cloud ) while opening a new notebook. And same should be displayed in properties.

B- Notebooks opened in Cloud, by default there should be a folder in local drive where primarily the cloud notebooks should get stored / updated , and later in background and depending upon availabilty of internet it should sync.

C- Sync status to have more option , i.e sync a particular note book , or sync all notebooks and date and time last successful sync with any error log .

I'm quite sure that these are not only my specific requirement by requirement of other working professionals like me , who depends on their data availability & access all time whether internet connectivity is there or not.

Please note, when the data is not available at all time, how so ever the product is, it's of no use.

I sincerely hope, user community will join and share their thoughts and experience on this and Evernote shall consider providing this as a standard feature.

@NITIN SHAH Welcome to the forums and for sharing your thoughts. These forums are primarily users supporting users. Evernote staff are only here infrequently. You might wish to also share your thoughts directly with Evernote via the Feedback option in the application.

I'd also encourage you to edit your post and remove your Email and phone number. These are public forums and it has be known for personal information to be scooped up by spammers/fraudsters.

Wishful thinking …

EN controls which user has access to which features on the server. Unless they would change this entirely - or give up being a commercial entity, the cloud master copy will stay at the center of the subscription strategy.

EN never made an „on Premise“ offer. Offline content is available for all users on desktop, and for subscribers on mobile as well.

If you want local file keeping, you picked the wrong app.

I know that I'm less a tech pro than many on this forum, but I gave OneNote a honest go for a year, and ditched it about two years ago.  Two main reasons I left, and one of them was the sync.  The flexibility you ask for is exactly why I hated their sync.  Some notebooks synced, some not...delays in auto sync and I would jump into a manual sync before I unplugged and jumped in the truck...pretty soon I had no confidence in the local copy on my tablet.  Based on this post and others of yours, it sounds like EN isn't what you're looking for.

I'm confused (it's not uncommon) - doesn't Evernote already do all this?

  1. Since the purpose is to be available on any device that has access to the cloud,  it syncs to the server
  2. If you wnat a copy (in various formats) in your local storage,  that's optional (if you have enough space).
  3. It's possible to open the app online via the web version,  or on a local device with the app installed
  4. It's possible to work offline and sync later - there are different methods for mobile devices and desktops,  but they both work...
  5. AFAIK the whole account does not sync - only changes edited in a current online session and the current Activity Log will show any anomalies.

Dear Sir,

1. Local Stored Notebooks.

As an example, for Macbook or Ipad pro while opening new note, there is a clear option where to open it, in iCloud or on the device.

In OneNote gives an option where to open the notebook in one drive or on drive 'c: 'D:

Isn't it more user-friendly that Evernote to have an option while opening a notebook itself?

Rgds,

It is a basic design decision (for v10) that all content is located on a cloud server. Key functions are executed on the server, which means that local content is not working under the v10 app design.

If having local content is a key factor for you, choose another product.
