All my notes disappeared. Help!

meghan matt

Idea

Right before the holiday break, I put weeks worth of written work notes into Evernote. I worked on the notes for a few days and then logged out for the holiday. I shut down my computer, and when I opened it today, every single note was gone. I have looked through all the old forums to no avail, and Evernote offers ZERO support, which I didn't know when I signed up. Please help me. I need all of that work back.

You likely have accidentally created a new account, instead of logging into the existing one. One typo in the user name, and you can easily overlook it asks you for the new password to open the account.

Log out, quit the app, reopen it - and now on logging in make sure you use the correct user name, and the preexisting password.

Did you follow the link? It gives guest access.

I just tried, and without a subscription login it only works for certain issues, e.g., account. Honestly, @meghan matt, if I were you I'd call this an account issue of some kind and submit a ticket. As long as you're 1,000% sure you didn't accidentally create a new account with no notes in it.

If you shut the computer down before the sync process completed, it's just possible that that process was interrupted. Note history is maintained for all accounts, free and paid, but is only accessible to paid subscribers. You could subscribe for just one month to get at the note history, which should show at least some near-final stage of the work you did over several days.

@meghan matt We have to ask some questions here:

I interpret "Computer" as working on a desktop client (Win or Mac). Or was it working in the web client, using a browser ?

Did you stop typing, and shut down then right away ? Have you been on a good, stable internet connection in that moment ?

You say all your notes disappeared . Does it only show an empty account ? Or an account with your notes, just the latest changes missing ?

Which devices are you currently using ?

  1. I've also had notes that I created which indicated "All changes saved" in the lower right hand corner, completely disappear after I closed the note and tried to access it minutes later. This occurred on 1/3/23.
  2. @agsteeleEvery time I go to Evernote's support page, it tells me I'm logged out and when I log in, it still indicates I'm logged out. In this state, I cannot submit any tickets - only browse the forum.

FWIW, this just happened to me last night using the app on my iPad, but then hours later opening up the app on my iPhone.  I have been using Evernote daily for eight years. I was hoping it would show up this morning as a duplicate note conflict, but no luck. I submitted a ticket and am waiting to hear back. Something like this happened years ago and they gave me access to history and I recovered all. I hope that happens again. I am a paid user.
I wish you luck…
