is there a way to see whether a note is Starred on windows desktop?

that is, in the note itself, without having to find it in the list of notes?

Sorry just seen that your question is about legacy so ignore the following which is how you would do it in V10.

Open the three dots menu. If the note is in shortcuts you will see "remove from shortcuts".

In Legacy, v. 6, right-clicking on the note in the Note List will pop up a menu with "Remove from Shortcuts" at the bottom.
