How do I open a local file?

Recommended Posts

I want to be able to open local files such as Excel, word etc. from notes.

Currently, I drag and drop the files in notes, but they are saved somewhere else (in evernote cloud I believe). So I am basically importing the files, not linking to them.

How can I just add links to the files I want to open?

Thanks.

If the file has been attached to a note then right click and select Open. The file should open in the default program (eg Excel) When you finish working, save and exit. It will go back into the city in Evernote.

There are two ways on Windows.

1. Create a windows shortcut to the file and then attach that to the note (e.g. by dragging and dropping into the note)

2. Add a link (ctrl+K) to the note in the format

file:///C:\Users\Mike\...

You can also link to folders, rather than individual files, using the same method.

This is what I was looking for. Works great. Thanks mate!

Now I am disappointed 😢 no Mainframe again.

Create a link to the file (maybe it is called an Alias or what), save it to the note.

No idea if it works, I am on a Mac.

I had to google what a Mainframe is. How's that for a disappointment? :)))

I am using macOS, the way is:

Open a browser.  I tried Safari, but it is not good (too good).  So I changed to Edge.

Drag the local file to the Url type place, it will be come a local route, file//..../....

Than copy the Url Link of Local, go to EN, Open the Link by CMD+K, paste the link... That's all.

It is superior to an abacus, however this may change if you take energy consumption into account.

Think about it next time when you make a payment - most financial transactions are still run on mainframes, not on the play stuff we believe is a computer. They are often still programmed in COBOL - a language where they had to make programmers return from retirement to fix the "year-2000-bug" - 2 decades ago.
