As a user, I would like to have the ability to create sections within a notebook so I can group notes according to various criteria.

My vote would be for notebook hierarchy, similar to the tag hierarchy

As a work around

Stack:              NotebookA
Notebooks:           NotebookA.01
                                NotebookA.02
                                NotebookA.03

Here is an example of a stack and notebook structure which also uses the style option to colour the names of certain notebooks to give extra visual clarity. Regards Dab.

You can contact EN through the feedback function build into the clients.

BTW, in my opinion far too many notebooks. You would probably not feel the need for a visual element if you would just drop all bills into a notebook called „Bills“, and do the rest by using search, or by tagging the notes. Since notebooks can’t be nested, you try to nest by creating your own index (03.12.2 …). No wonder you want additional visual options - far too many notebooks, without a reason.

Tags can be nested, and there is an infinite level of nesting. You can search including or excluding tag levels nested below a tag specified for search. You could find all bills for „SSE“ by simply typing tag:SSE into the search field, or by clicking on a „SSE“ tag. And you will find out you don’t need pink notebooks any more.

fwiw  In my database, these would be tags
and a single generic Filing notebook
           !Bills
           !Vendor-aaaaaaaaa
           !Budget-aaaaaaaaa
