10.39: question inserting an URL

mczin

Idea

new 10.39 feature: Instead of typing Ctrl + K or Cmd + K or hitting the “insert” button to add links into notes with text, you can now copy a URL, highlight some text, and paste it.

How should that work? Like that?:

1. Copy an URL with CRTL+C, like: https://www.google.de/

2. Highlight some text, like: some text (bold = highlight)

3. Paste URL with CRTL+V gives: some text

In my case CRTL+V replaces some text by  https://www.google.de

Mine works as expected with either ctrl+V or crl+shift+V. Worth double checking you really have been updated to 10.39? Also works on the web version so you could try there too.

Weird - what Windows versions are you guys using?  I'm on Win 11 and I can verify that as with the OP pasting into highlighted text totally replaces the text with the URL.  No linking involved.  Ctrl+K meanwhile works fine.  Possibly a clipboard thing? (and I'm on EN10.39.6 too!)

I'm on Windows 10. Can you get it to work on the web version?

I'am on WIN 11 too.

On the web it doesn't work either.

Thank's for your responses. It is not a very important feature for me, just nice ... and I was not sure how it should work.

OK! Thank you @agsteele.

I think, there is a missunderstanding in how it should work.

If I copy a URL from the note itself, as in your case ...cnet.org and then paste it to a highlighted text, it worked as it should.

But I thought, or my usecase is, it should work when copying a URL from the browseradress field. That doesn't work.

That was just an example. I initially copied from my browser. I run Firefox. I wonder if something odd is getting copied over such as a space or hidden characters. Have you tried pasting plain text? Ctrl+Shift+V

Just a thought. Haven't tried myself.

Great! That means you are copying in hidden characters when you get the URL from the browser. Ctrl+Shift+V is clearly the way to go and you can chill with your new foundcool function ;)

...And confusingly mine is working too! - Both current web notes and new Evernote for Windows notes add a URL without any problem.  Maybe the first time I tried a URL copied from outside Evernote...?

And so you should be a able to do so ...

Try the plain text paste to see if it works for you.
