Cajundragon 1
Evernote is great on my PC and Mac. However on my Android (Motorola G7 Power) it is so SLLLLLOOOOOOWWWW. So much so that I'm looking for alternatives. Does Evernote have a *lite* version or a guide on how to basically TURN OFF all the fancy features in the app? The only features I need are find in note and search notes. That's it! This is too much for that. Thanks. Geoff Link to comment
Level 5 PinkElephant 5,153 Posted June 14, 2022 Level 5 Share Posted June 14, 2022 This is an entry level smartphone from 2019, then launched for about 200 bucks, with a rather weak Snapdragon CPU. The maker probably has cut more corners to make the price point viable. I would not expect wonders in performance. EN is not running as a native app. The clients run embedded into a framework (think of it as a browser without an own front end). The framework already creates a lot of system load - putting a „lite“ version inside of it won’t change anything. My conclusion: To be able to use EN with a sufficient responsiveness, you probably need a stronger device. You could watch out for mid to high end Android phones from 2 years ago - they are sometimes sold off from stocks and offer good value for the money. 1 Link to comment
Level 5 Dave-in-Decatur 1,986 Posted June 14, 2022 Level 5 Share Posted June 14, 2022 I was going to say that there are many other, lighter Android note-taking apps (I like ColorNote myself). But then I noticed that you're also using it on a PC and Mac, which leads us to THE "fancy feature" of Evernote, syncing among multiple devices and operating systems. As for all the styling, etc., one person's useless overload is another's essential. That said, there have been other reports and discussion of Evernote being very slow on Android phones. Work Chat may be part of the problem. 1 Link to comment
Cajundragon 1
Thanks. I bought it awhile ago and it runs everything I need smoothly (including some mild video editing, full screen Plex and such). I wouldn't of thought I'd finally want to upgrade because of a text editor. I think perhaps Evernote is too fancy for what I need. Honestly Google Keep would be fine if you could search WITHIN a note which you cant. The cross platform is important because I use Macos for work and Android/PC/Linux at home. Do you think the Motorola G8 Power would handle it? I see I can get one for $180 and the specs look better than the G7. Link to comment
Level 5 PinkElephant 5,153 Posted June 14, 2022 Level 5 Share Posted June 14, 2022 Don’t know, I am completely on iOS. And there for 180 bucks I get some earbuds … With iOS it is running ok on devices sold during the last 5 years, more or less. It is running on older devices as well, but notably slow. But there are no such economic phones in the whole Apple setup - even the cheapest SE sells for a lot more, and is running on the latest CPU of the last or the current model year. 1 1 Link to comment
Cajundragon 1
Haha I'm actually using Apple earbuds with my Android. The sound quality is pretty good. I think I'm going to get the Moto G60 for $254. Benchmarks blow my G7 Power away and has a way better camera. I used to enjoy Apple products but when I have a $900 device in my pocket, I can't enjoy myself. I'm constantly feeling for it and having a mini-heart attack when I leave it somewhere. Mid range devices give me calm. 1 Link to comment

Evernote is aware of it and they are trying to fix it (for a while already 😏). It has been reported that even high end phones have performance issues: "...I’ve been experiencing exactly the same on my Z Fold 3 for months now, while the iPhone works pretty well... Apple would not be Apple if they didn't think about this as well: Get yourself an Apple watch (well, yes, hrrr, how to say, another xxx$ device ...). You can't easily forget it, it will notify you if you leave other stuff behind, and it will even warn you if your heart rhythm looses steadiness. Brilliant ! Link to comment

If you are still looking for alternatives and need something that will sync to PC, Mac and Android, you could give UpNote a try. It is Evernote-like (and Evernote-lite IMO) and works and syncs on all those platforms. It doesn't have all of Evernote's features, but it does have some features that Evernote doesn't have like linking to a specific header, backlinks, quote blocks, syntax highlighting in code blocks, table of contents / document outline and thumbnail image control. With that said, I still prefer Evernote (but I also use Evernote on iOS and don't have slowness problems there). Link to comment
