please restore ability to disable auto-formatting

Idea

The main thing I use Evernote for, and have for a decade, includes notations in the form of numbers with periods. This new thing where they are instantly rendered into links is making using Evernote a nightmare--I'm constantly opening meaningless Safari pages accidentally. Is there any chance that you will allow us to disable this?

Indeed - sounds very frustrating for your use case.

Without knowing exactly how your use case works or what it entails, have you considered putting back-ticks around that notation?

For example:

Those back-ticks create an "inline code block" that won't get hyperlinked. But, alas, there are also a few shortcomings with the inline code blocks as well, some of which are discussed here:

Maybe doing that is more of a hassle than the meaningless Safari pages that get opened though. Just an idea.

thanks. That's not a solution for me--for one thing I'd have to do it to thousands of notations (over 6K), because I search and re-use them all the time. This is such an intrusive change--I really hope you will give us a way to auto-disable, as you apparently can on Windows?

Personally I don’t allow or disallow anything - the forum is user2user. The 2 desktop clients are pretty near twins - I doubt there are many options available in one of them that don’t exist for the other. The code block is available on all clients - but as already discussed, it is of little use if you have a stock of existing notes that are now converted once you open them.

If you want to reach EN about an issue, use the feedback function in one of the clients, or issue a support ticket.

Maybe now after the settings feature was introduced with the latest release, there will be more flexibility to add options. But since your use case is pretty special and depends on your private convention of how to jot down notations, I would not bet on a change.

oh hey, so sorry -- I thought I was posting in Feature Requests -- thanks for your efforts to help! (oops--editing to add that I just checked: this IS feature requests! So I hope that you're wrong and that someone from Evernote looks at this forum occasionally, because if they have a forum called "feature requests" that they never read that's a real jerk move.

For the record, when I googled this I found loads of people complaining about not being able to opt out of this--I am not a sole use case.

But I'll also do as you suggest and contact them in other ways; thank you.

From what I see on the forum, EN staff rarely shows up here, at least actively.

So if you want to make sure to get your message through, I think the other ways like feedback or support are the better solution.
