When tagging on iPhone, I search for a tag and then tap to accept tag. Does not work if tapping the word.

If I search for a current tag and find one (the first one I want to assign), when I tap on the word it does not assign the tag. I must tap on the icon. After I assign the first tag, on the later tags I can simply tap on the word to make it assign.

Just gave it a try on my iPad with iOS 15.3, EN 10.26. I need to tap on the tag icon in the tags list in front of the tag name, independent from being the first or any next tag.

This is consistent and no bug.

Have been struggling with applying tags on iOS for a year now.

Can we get some love from the developers?  I have tried tapping on the tag icon and on the tag text.  Neither works unless I persistently tap at least a dozen times.

My experience: It sometimes is a bit fidgety. It gets worse when you get emotionally engaged.

If you watch the tag list closely, you will see there is a part of the tag highlighted, and a part plain text.

From my experience tapping on the plain (not highlighted) part of the tag name makes it stick at once.

There we go.  The intuitive part of my brain never thought of tapping on the area that has nothing to do with the tag...to apply the tag.

You are absolutely right that it is quite counter intuitive. I only discovered it myself more by chance (and by avoiding to get emotionally engaged 😡 ).
