Find tags to accept fragments when adding tags

When searching for tags in filters or tag view, you can type fragments,  so for example "22" will find "2022" and "Shopping:2022".  It's really useful.

But when adding tags to a note, you can't - you must type the start of the tag, so "22" only offers to create tag "22" - you'd have to type "Shop" to find "Shopping:2022".

Please can adding tags find tags by fragment like the other tag options.

Maybe there could be some option in Preferences to toggle or otherwise manage this capability, so we could both get what we want!!

I agree but EN don't seem keen on preferences. I would also like the option of having tags in the hierarchy or just listed alphabetically when using the edit tags dialogue box.

The good news is that both systems are currently catered for. Use the tags area at the bottom of the note to search with tags starting with that letter (or letters) or use the edit tags menu if you want to search for all tags containing those letters,

That is true if you add tags using tag area at the bottom of the note. However if you use the edit tags dialogue box (alt+ctrl+T on windows) you get a "proper" search. I quite like having both systems available.

I'd PREFER getting a LIST of all the tags that start with "t" when I type "t" in a tag search, rather than what happens now, which is I get a list of every tag that contains a letter "t". I find that annoying, and I'm quite sure it used to work as I describe, and I would like it to work that way again. For example if I want to add the existing tag "T'ai Chi", when I type "T", I see "Atomic, Charity, and Comcast" along with every other tag that contains a "t".

Fortunately if I type more characters of the tag...  T+apostrophe that is—"T'"—I then get the "T'ai Chi" tag. (I believe this was only recently fixed, and it does help.)

I could never see a case for locating a partial in a tag. Such as the example by Wilf Sorrow, above. Wilf wants the exact opposite.

Maybe there could be some option in Preferences to toggle or otherwise manage this capability, so we could both get what we want!!

Brilliant compromise - thanks Mike.
- Edit tags to get wildcards - on Mac, right click menu or keyboard shortcut (bit of a handful as ctrl/option/Cmd/T).
- Add tags to avoid wildcards - on Mac, click the bottom line 'Add tag' button or keyboard shortcut Cmd/'.
