The "New" button needs fixing

drcwright

Idea

The NEW button should ADD a new note. In standard UI (that's short for User Interface) practices, "+" means ADD and a down arrow/chevron means DROPDOWN for more options. The Evernote + and chevron do the exact same thing. So I have no idea why you have both symbols. Clicking the green bar should go directly to adding a new note. If I want to choose between creating a Note or Task, then I should click the "Options" chevron. This is UI 101.

If you look at it closely, the „New Note“ is placed right beneath the „New“ button.

To create a new note, it is simply a slow double click on „New“. Only if you want a task, you have to move the pointer a little. And if you want even more options, you need to point exactly on the down arrow for further options.

This is UI 101, advanced level …

The real experts prefer the strg/cmd-N instead, I was told.

Gotta disagree. That's just bad UI.

And also, "real expert" options like CTRL+N aren't on the table if you've only got one arm. That's covered in the section on Accessibility in UI 101.

I don't understand why you think this. There is nothing to indicate that the button is for a new note. Other people may well want a new task, attachment, audio or sketch. Fortunately, as @PinkElephanthas already stated, double clicking the new button gives you a new note.

However: it is confusing to have a plus sign (left) and a drop-down sign (right) without any noticable difference in effect.

Agreed. It's one button and having both plus and drop down icons is confusing.
