Once logged in I cannot dismiss an 'Upgrade' acct dialogbox...

You are simply exceeding your device limit of 2 devices for the Free account. The web client is counted as a device.

By going above the limit, you are provoking this popup. Other users are not as lucky - some simply can't log in, without getting a message.

Go to your account settings, tab devices. For normal use you are allowed 2 devices, if you want to add another (like the web client) you need to be down to 1 device. There is a limit on the number of unsyncs as well - so deal with it with care, else you can lock yourself out of your account for 30 days.
