SVance 1
I've loved Evernote since the very beginning. I've subscribed the Premium level for years at $45/year. However, their new plan in which even at the "Personal" level, will increase that cost to over double...at $96/year! As much as I appreciate the cost of software development and how we need to pay to play, I'm struggling with the justification of paying that much for a tool like Evernote. It's just as much as the Adobe suite for Photoshop and Lightroom and, even though I use Evernote more frequently...I can't see the value vs. cost. Just had to weigh in. 1 Link to comment
Level 5* gazumped 9,397 Posted July 21, 2021 Level 5* Share Posted July 21, 2021 Evernote are still in process of rolling out the new subscription levels, and they did say (I think) that we'd all be getting an individual email to explain how the new levels will affect us. You may find that as an existing customer you get some leeway - I'd suggest you wait until you hear more before taking any decisions... Link to comment
WilliamL 317
I think there may be a misunderstanding? I don’t think any price plan has doubled? There may be an error or bug in Evernote billing if it’s saying that…. Link to comment

Honestly, with the price of pro being £7.49 there really isn’t that much difference between the two prices here. For context family OneDrive is £7.99 so EN is on the high side. Link to comment
splus 14
EU price has also increased to EUR 60 a year for the Personal plan. The current cycle remains the same, but the renewal has a higher price. That's almost the same as my Microsoft 365 subscription, LOL! Why did Evernote say the prices will stay the same when they increased it? 1 Link to comment
Scubadude 2
Im on premium subs for years as well, should I wait for the aforementioned personal email? I feel less "premium" now :) Link to comment

My next subscription date is in my billing info but unlike some people the price is not mentioned. Clicking to change the frequency form yearly to monthly tells me I am on the higher price despite having paid the original price. I've raised a support ticket because I want to know what I will be charged given that the email I received said "We’ll upgrade you into a new, more powerful Evernote plan at the same price you’re paying now." I hope they didn't mean to continue "until you get to your next renewal when there will be a 22% price hike". Link to comment
cgk 28
Just because of my petty nature - if they do hit me with a price increase, I'll send them a letter before action and then head off to small claims court. Why were they daft enough to send out an email promising no price increase - just before increasing the price. 1 Link to comment

That is the key question! I keep on going back to the email but I can't see any wriggle room - it says three times the price is not changing. I'm therefore hoping that this is yet another bungled roll out and Hanlon's razor is correct: Quote Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by incompetence 1 Link to comment

danio72 105
Have you guys read the FAQ's which clearly say no one is forced to change or accept a price increase? https://help.evernote.com/hc/en-us/articles/1500006213161-Changes-to-Evernote-subscription-plans for as long as they offer the plan and for as long as you keep the subscription active Flying in face of those against a price increase here... but I consider Evernote too cheap. I'm glad they are hiking the prices. 20 UK pennies a day for Professional £74.99 per year] , for a tool that delivers to me all the functionality it current has and all that is to come. It's a complete bargain! Just my opinion of course 😀 2 Link to comment
David2020 0
The up-charge to move from a legacy Premium account and use the features afforded to Personal accounts is $24.96/annually. After being a loyal customer for the past 12 years it looks like it's time to share the same level of loyalty and move on. The productivity tool market is flooded with excellent alternatives. David2020 0
For current premium services I pay $45/annually or $3.75/month, if I want the true personal account that includes calendar and tasks I am required to "upgrade to save changes" at the cost of $5.83/month or $69.96/annually. That is a price increase. I also completely understand the wording used to say there is no price increase. So if I have been converted to from premium to personal then one would think that all the functionality of a personal account would be included at the premium rate. At the moment this is not the case. Please keep in mind this not a dig at the new pricing, Evernote can charge whatever they like. I don't like false pretenses. Link to comment

At the moment this is not the case. My understanding is that whatever you are paying now, you can be locked-in at that price and those features (and any new features EN might throw our way). But I think there were two kinds of Premium users -- and maybe the users themselves didn't know that, but EN classified them differently: full-paying and discounted. Full-paying get migrated to Personal and Discounted get locked in at the new "Legacy" Premium. I'm a locked in "Legacy" Plus user -- so I get a few new features, but I don't have to pay a higher rate, unless I want to move to Personal. It sounds like you might be a discounted premium so now you are a "Legacy" Premium, but I'm not sure. Link to comment
Level 5* gazumped 9,397 Posted July 24, 2021 Level 5* Share Posted July 24, 2021 AFAICS I'm still showing as 'premium' here, but show as Personal in my account details online - and I'm paying my concessionary 'Legacy' lower rate that is no longer available to new customers. So I've been grandfathered into a package that should be somewhat more expensive if I bought in now. I have Calendar access and 'to do's work for me so I seem to have full personal benefits at a lower price. That said I'm still running the pre-v10 public apps in Windows and Android, but on this Linux box, the web access gives me the extended access. I'd even run the new Linux Beta if I had access (hint!). True, there's 'professional' which would double my upload limit and give me boolean searches, neither of which benefits I actually want or need. But I still think that if/ when the various speed and system bugs have been worked out I'll be happy to continue my subscription. Maybe if 'professional' attracts some more specialised stuff I'll rethink my attitude, but I'm happy to continue as is for the time being. I remember when Evernote management used to do podcasts they would tell stories about the user reaction to any significant change - generally it was not receptive. This time around they did themselves no favours, but they seem to -gradually- be turning things round. Link to comment
Level 5 PinkElephant 4,882 Posted July 24, 2021 Level 5 Share Posted July 24, 2021 Just check your account info. If you are already on Personal, your Premium plan qualified. If not you are on a rebated Premium, that won‘t convert by itself. You then have the option to stay on it (continuing your plans features) or upgrade to personal. In the first case no gain, no loss, in the second you invest a little more for additional features. It is your decision, EN will continue to honor your current package if you decide to keep it. 1 Link to comment
Tom59 1
I know that I am adding to this thread a year later, but it is still relevant. I can confirm that prices have doubled. here are my payments on a Personal Plan. 2020 £29.99 2021 £28.48 2022 £54.96 (Renews in November) If this price does not change, then I will have to revert to the Free plan or MS OneNote. My prices are similar - because the previous years I used the discount deals EN occasionally offers. Your prices track mines, so you must have used those deals too. It’s a little unfair to compare full price with previous discount prices. Before if you cancelled you would soon get an offer of another year on discount, not sure if that still happens but that would likely take 30% of the bill again if it works. Link to comment

If you haven't chosen to upgrade then you should find that you are grandfathered in at your old rate. The prices on the website are for new subscribers or upgrades from older plans like Plus and the old Premium which didn't qualify for an automatic upgrade to Personal. If you plan shows as personal then you should find things don't change for you. 1 Link to comment
Level 5* gazumped 9,397 Posted August 5, 2022 Level 5* Share Posted August 5, 2022 ...What @agsteele said. If you want to confirm your renewal status, contact Support. It's my understanding too that unless you choose to move to either Personal or Professional you'll be grandparented in at your current level. Whether or not you paid the full market rate for that level last time around is a whole other question... Link to comment

In 2020 there was no Personal plan, it was introduced in summer 2021. What you describe is that you have been on a permanently rebated Premium plan. These plans were not automatically converted into a Personal plan. When the new plans launched it was offered to these users to a) upgrade to Personal, for the full price that had already been valid for Premium before, b) continue on rebated Premium. If staying on the old plan, no new feature beyond those available for the Free plan would be available. If you are asked now the full price, you have decided at any point in time to upgrade to Personal. Not EN has upped the price for your old subscription, you have decided to move to the new plan - more complete and for the price we non rebated users have always paid for Premium before. You have decided to move to a plan that is more expensive. If you don’t like it, contact EN support, Account. Usually they are quite open to correct a mistake a user made when clicking on something.
