Footnote/Bibliography Functionality

Would find it helpful (as a graduate student) to be able to write papers and use footnotes with bibliography.

Maybe down the road, functionality with Zotero app would be amazing.

EN is not build for that sort of stuff. It will not comply with the rules for scientific writing.

You can easily build in EN a reference pool with all the material you‘ve found. You can create yourself a template to not forget the source and other relevant information for a citing or a piece of information.

But for the actual writing I would use an app build for it, like Ulysses or Scrivener, or any word processor like Word or Pages.
