the small 1x1 widget always crashes

Every time I try to place the small 1x1 widget on my phone screen, the screen "crashes" and the phone usually switches back to the last app that was open before I tried to add the widget. 

(The bigger widget works.) 

I have this problem since the widgets were put back into the android-version. I reported it via the app, but I still encounter this problem with the current version.

I think I haven't seen this problem mentioned here in the forum. 

Does anybody else encounter this problem with the small widget? 

(I would be glad to see this fixed, because I would like to have just a little "new note" button. The bigger widget doesn't really fit into my screen layout and I don't need that many shortcuts.)
