(Archived) How do I import library from Yojimbo or Soho Notes?

triglyph

Idea

I've used Soho Notes, Yojimbo, Together and a couple of others. All of them allow you to import notes that were exported from other applications as a folder or as individual files.

I've tried in vain to discover how to import notes I have exported from Yojimbo as text files. How can this be done. I have several hundred notes and I don't want to do it by cutting and pasting individual notes. Surely there must be some way; what company would make it difficult to migrate from a competing application?

How many items do you have in Yojimbo? Let's say 500?

click on your Yojimbo Library in the upper L,

then click in the upper R window and Cmd-A,

drag all these to the Evernote icon in your Dock

Watch in horror as 500 windows begin opening up in Evernote. Oh, and after 350 you'll get a reminder that you're bumping up to your "monthly allowance". At least Evernote was able to handle the windowing and didn't crash, so that was kinda sorta impressive.

Mother, may I, import this month or do I have to wait for next month for a complete import?

But I am a total newb here so if there's a better way we're all ears, er, eyes...

This isn't the first time people are trying to migrate data from one app to another.

Fantastic. It works! Surprising how complex the code has to be for such a simple task. I remember when they said AppleScript was for everybody. You have to be a legitimate coder to get most tasks done.

Also surprising Evernote doesn't implement this or at least publicize it since it a tool to facilitate converting your data from another competing application. This is what Apple does to help people convert from Windows.

Thanks for the tip.

Well, AppleScript can be applied in both basic or complex ways and, If you browse through some of the Evernote script examples in the AppleScript code library on my site, you'll see both.

I must admit, though -- my tendency is to go all out with these things! ;)

So, please don't let my style put you off of AppleScript... it's actually really easy to learn and I bet you could write some basic scripts on your own after just a few minutes of getting acquainted with things.

Anyhow, I'm really glad that it worked for you!

Oh, thanks for this and further info. Now I see the checkbox to keep 500 windows from opening  :(

And I beg your pardon regarding my first post to the forum. There's a lot of depth with the app; much more than a text bucket, obviously. duh.
