How to make the snippet view stay?

With the newest version(s), I can't figure out how to make my snippet view stay. I used to be able to click on a note in my shortcuts (in the sidebar) without losing the snippet view. I move between notes quickly (sorted by most recently modified) and like to be able to quickly click between the different notes in the snippet view. I'd like it to "stay put" like it used to. Please advise.
