Release 10.8.4 Losing formatting (bullet points) when copy pasting from MS Word

Recommended Posts

In the 10.8.4 release there is a problem (wasn't there in the update immediately previously), where when copying text with bullet points, the formatting goes scrambled. There are multiple spaces between the bullet point and the text and it doesn't act as it should. There used to be this problem in the legacy version too but I was glad they fixed it, but it seems like it's back again. To get it to the format I want again involves lots of backspacing, recreating bullets, etc. which is very frustrating to use.

Yes, there have been issues with copying and pasting bullet lists from Word into Evernote since the release of version 10.

A lot of the earlier reported issues seem to have been resolved. I can't reproduce what you seem to have described but it doesn't entirely surprise me that there remains an issue.

Perhaps uninstall and reinstall the program and see if that fixes things.  Otherwise, since you are a Premium user,  register a support ticket.

I can certainly reproduce this. I've tried various things including ctrl-shift-V and pasting into a bulleted list. I'm not convinced it is just an EN thing though. Pasting into notepad also messes it up inserting a tab between the bullet point and the text and loosing all indentation. That may not be relevant as it's obviously just text.

Interestingly, if you paste into an online html editor (e.g. https://htmlg.com/html-editor/) and then copy and paste from there to EN everything is preserved beautifully.

Thanks for that. Unfortunately reinstalling didn't help. I will register for a support ticket. Will update how it goes!

It was working perfectly until the new update yesterday. The online HTML editor you linked to is a godsend though, it's an easy workaround for now!

Sadly EN's QA processes have never been strong and we are fast approaching the point where each update breaks as many things as it fixes.

My experience with copying text and pasting into a note is that new blank lines are added which now I have to go back and remove to restore the formatting that use to be perfect before this latest 10.8.6 update. I hope we can fix this as it added a lot of extra work to my day. I provided an example through the feedback system but never heard back. I love Evernote as I have been a power user for over 10 years and depend on the platform every day. Thank you in advance for your help.
