The inability to turn off list auto format breaks my workflow

In one of the recent versions the option to turn off auto formatting was removed. This breaks my workflow and makes Evernote totally unusable.
All my notes are in format of lines starting with symbols "->#?!", but now Evernote turns all "-" into lists and significantly slows me down. Due to this change alone I am considering to stop using Evernote. Is there a way to turn this off?

Please allow us to turn off auto formatting.  Common items I type keep changing and I have to press Command-Z each time to get back to original characters.
