duplicate note versions automatically saving

I'm having an issue where duplicate versions of the same note are being created and saved automatically. How can I fix this? When working in a note, new versions of the note are created and saved, which makes many duplicate versions of the same note. Sometimes it happens only once or twice per note but recently its been happening multiple times and for example creating 10+ versions of the same note.

I have been having the same experience on Evernote 10.6.9 app on Windows. I have searched for keystroke combinations that might prompt this, but can find none. And to be clear, it's an exact duplicate as of a point in time, not a "copy."
