ambimb 0
Can anyone explain why EN runs only on the latest Mac OS, 10.5, and does not work w/the just slightly older version of Mac OS, 10.4? What functionality would have been lost if it had been designed to work on both Tiger and Leopard, as the vast majority of Mac software does? I know, if I'm going to beta test software, I should not expect any amount of backwards compatibility, but until I win the lottery I still have to use a Mac that's not going to really work so well w/Leopard and I'm sure many people who use EN are in a similar boat. Yeah, we can use the web interface, but that's not really the point. Anyway, I don't mean to whine, only to ask: Why Leopard-only? Link to comment
engberg 89
Apple provided some significant changes to their development environment and programming interfaces with Leopard (10.5) that made it much easier to develop desktop applications like ours. Unfortunately, they didn't make these changes backward-compatible by porting the libraries for 10.4, so our application only runs on 10.5. Link to comment
gelo 0
I was also very surprised when i was trying to install evernote on my mac at work and discover i wasn't able because only Tiger is installed there. I think this means a serious limitation for maaany mac users. I hope you'll consider to get Evernote to be Tiger compatible. Link to comment
jplumey 1
I agree with these posts. Broad acceptance by Mac users means Tiger compatibility. Otherwise you're missing out on a potentially huge amount of users. I am planning on upgrading to Leopard eventually, but not for some time. I think the majority of Tiger users are in the same boat. Many, if not most, will not upgrade to Leopard until they get a new system. This lack of support for Tiger effectively stops me in my tracks as this is now a "windows only" solution for me. I think you have some great ideas here, but lack of Tiger support is very narrow-sighted. Link to comment
ultrasur1 0
add one more vote to this list. as of now i'm using evernote on xp via vmware fusion though i work mostly with mac osx tiger (obviously).the application is super slick and intuitive and i've had fun learning it with every consecutive use it, but i think it would suit quite a few people if it was compatible with tiger, as there's lots of us who still don't see the benefit of upgrading to leopard (besides incompatibility with certain program,of course). rwagnee 0
Me too, wish I could run it on my desktop. I love this app, on my iPhone, it works great and helps me record my day. Wow, just think of all the lost revenue for Evernote, users who choose another because they have 10.4. One would think the development of compatibility would pay for itself quickly. Link to comment
