Inserting new alphabets between words PROBLEM (It selects alphabet automatically)

Say there are 2 words that forms a sentence

"12 YRS"

Say I want to insert the alphabet 'E', 'A' & 'R' to form the full sentence of 'YEARS'

I click at the space between Y & R, but what Evernote does is it automatically selects the alphabet R. If I type the alphabet E, the E replaces the R. If I continue and type the alphabet A, it replaces the alphabet S.

 

What gives??? How to solve???

Sounds like v10 supports overwrite/insert mode. Every program (Visual Studio being the main one) I've used that supports that uses Insert to toggle between the modes. (No idea if that will work as I still use v6)
