Slapdash 1
I installed - v 10.4.4 build 458403 public Editor: v112.1.14477 Service: v1.23.6 on my Mac and now have Evernote Helper (Render) popping to the top of the Activity monitor often with 100%+ CPU usage. This is new and effecting performance. Can this be improved? 1 Link to post
Gannett 3
Yes I have this performance issue as well. My Mac is not new (2011) running 10.13.6 but I noticed as soon as the new version of Evernote was started that the mac was starting to wheeze like it was ruining up hill. I have had this before on a disaster of an HP printer driver update so I know what to look at - Activity monitor etc. I hoped it was just doing a note conversion and would shut up after a while but it does seem to be continuous when Evernote is open ( not even just when being used ) Looking at memory ... one thread is taking up way more memory Evernote 137.4 MB 0 bytes 30 479 35780 gannett 134.0 MB 0.1 - No No 0.1 18:37.06 1 0 bytes 0 bytes 64 bit 0 bytes 0 bytes 0 0 62.2 MB 211.7 MB No Yes 73.9 1.8 MB No No Evernote Helper 20.0 MB 0 bytes 9 110 35785 gannett 29.8 MB 0.0 - No No 0.0 2:58.80 1 0 bytes 0 bytes 64 bit 0 bytes 0 bytes 0 0 6.8 MB 128.2 MB No Yes 12.3 0 bytes No No Evernote Helper (GPU) 91.5 MB 0 bytes 7 115 35784 gannett 78.0 MB 0.0 - No No 0.0 3:57.12 0 0 bytes 0 bytes 64 bit 0 bytes 0 bytes 0 0 4.6 MB 143.3 MB No Yes 15.8 0 bytes No No Evernote Helper (Renderer) 61.7 MB 0 bytes 15 148 35871 gannett 69.0 MB 0.0 - No No 0.0 18.92 0 0 bytes 0 bytes 64 bit 0 bytes 0 bytes 0 0 15.7 MB 135.4 MB No Yes 1.3 0 bytes No No Evernote Helper (Renderer) 137.6 MB 0 bytes 21 140 35787 gannett 172.7 MB 0.5 - No No 0.4 13:37.47 2 0 bytes 0 bytes 64 bit 0 bytes 0 bytes 0 0 62.9 MB 129.7 MB No Yes 55.2 0 bytes No No Evernote Helper (Renderer) 790.8 MB 0 bytes 17 461 35874 gannett 577.2 MB 0.1 - No No 0.1 8:30:27.19 0 0 bytes 0 bytes 64 bit 0 bytes 0 bytes 0 0 413.1 MB 150.0 MB No Yes 2,010.1 0 bytes No No Evernote Helper (Renderer) 55.6 MB 0 bytes 15 160 2051 gannett 124.4 MB 0.0 - No No 0.0 8.18 0 0 bytes 0 bytes 64 bit 0 bytes 0 bytes 0 0 52.8 MB 146.8 MB No Yes 115.1 0 bytes No No and way more CPU 147% in this case. Corey Scholefield 3
Hi there - I also have this issue on MacOS. The Evernote Helper process is spending way too many cycles on the CPU, and is affecting overall performance on my machine: Macbook Air (13-inch, mid 2012) MacOS Catalina 10.15.7 Evernote for Mac v10.4.4 build 2096 public I've been shutting down Evernote when it acts up. 3 Link to post

Gannett 3
Seems to be much better in just released version 10.5.7. 1 Link to post
Gannett 3
After a few days seeing that this newer version of Evernote for Mac v 10.5.7 build 458420 is better but can still nail a process when just on-screen. It's not being interacted with just sitting there but one of the Evernote Helper (Renderer) eats 80% of a cpu. I love a quiet laptop and have hunted down and ejected software that make the fans huff and puff before. Will Evernote be the next ejectee ? would be a shame as I have 4+ years of notes accumulated. Dave Green 26
Am Was having similar performance. I do have quite a few notes (5000) and am seeing quite a bit of CPU usage and the corresponding reduction in how long my MacBook Pro 13 can run on battery -- to me this is a critical issue. Perhaps optimization will help this soon. After a second restart after the 10.5.7 upgrade, CPU usage dropped substantially. Perhaps, there is an issue between the Helper(s) and the main Evernote when software upgrades happen since they seem to be happening within the main application. Jryu543 0
I have a MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2020) with update 10.5.7 and this is still taking up a lot of my cpu usage. Taking up 35% right now, and I am not actively using it. Link to post
chudneywallace 3
I had this problem of Evernote Helper (Renderer) using >100% CPU constantly, and it was demolishing my battery. It seems to have gone away after i did this: (1) Completely removed Evernote using AppCleaner (2) Rebooted (3) Revoked access for my Mac from my Evernote account page (4) Downloaded Evernote from their website, and NOT from the App Store (5) Installed, logged in and left it to download my entire set of notes without interruption (by disabling sleep). This took a few hours. Now the process barely uses any CPU. Hope that works for someone! 3 Link to post
Carlos Vazquez 0
I am having the same problem. I have to close evernote if I want the fans to stop. With other updates, the problem is back similar to others. 18% usage min in one of the helpers when app is not minimized. 0.2-0.6 when minimized. Link to post
