'Smart' / Advanced tables

Bteam

Idea

It would be so helpful if you could implement 'smart' / advanced tables.  What I mean is the ability to create a table and for each column in the table being able to select the data type required:  for example:  Text, Number, Single-select option, Multi-select option, Date, Person, Checkbox, etc.  This would make taking notes and tracking things so much more user friendly.  It would also be great if you could have an option to sum up all numbers in a single column.

I'd love to see this too. It seems like Evernote spends a lot of time pushing table capabilities (nearly all of it's templates available are table-centric), but what we can do with tables is still pretty limited. Personally, I'm not looking for anything as feature-rich as an Excel-type table, but having those options Bteam mentioned like adding a single-select, multi-select, etc. would be great.

I echo this request (in fact I logged onto the forum to make it, and found this thread in a search). It would be good if tables in Evernote became just a little bit smarter. Like @Mr R I don’t want to turn EN into Excel, but extending the functionality a little would mean that simple tasks that I currently do in Google Sheets could be brought “in house” to Evernote. The rollout of Tasks has shown that there is value in extending EN to wrap more of our day to day needs - hopefully this could be another example.

For my particular use case, being able to sort a table by values in a column would be a big win.

My personal preference would be for better integration with other apps - so your Google sheet would appear embedded in the note. This seems a more general solution and could potentially include everybody's specialised needs (mathematical formulas, code formatting etc etc) without a huge increase in the editor code. Obviously users will disagree on what they consider to be the core features of the editor so EN will have to decide. YouTube videos can now be viewed from within the note so the future looks like integration rather than specialisation.

My preference would be both: Some simple table functions for day to day use, and a function to open attachments inline using the program defined as standard app for the file type.

I really don’t want to run something like Excel or in my case numbers just to add up 10 numbers in a table. This should be an EN feature.

To calculate a geometrical regression for the same 10 numbers must not be done natively in EN.

Personally, I'm not expecting much smart/advanced table functionality from a note editor

I do use spreadsheet functionality, stored in Evernote as a note file attachment
For editing, I use the Apple Numbers editor; a spreadsheet app
Likewise, I use word processing functionality with the Apple Pages editor, a word processing app
