PDF opening with text edit?

This is a weird one. Whenever I try and open PDFs I have in Evernote they try and open in text edit, giving a garbled mess of code junk. I know the PDFs are fine because I can view them as an attachment fine, just opening them causes a mess. PDFs work generally on my laptop, so I know it's not my laptop, but Evernote seems to throw a fit whenever I try and open one of them. 

 

Also, before anyone asks, it doesn't offer me any options of opening the pdf in any particular app. Just straight goes to text edit.
