How to capture a screenshot of selected area?

Hi,

I use screenshots a lot, mainly selected areas. 

I recently upgraded to 10. I want to know how to do this. The evernote web site tells us it is possible, just not how. I should be in the helper, but I cant figure it out.

There are three different types of screenshots you can capture:

• The entire screen: A screenshot of the entire screen is saved as a new note.
• A single application window: A screenshot of a single application window of your choice is saved as a new note. When the cursor becomes a camera, click once anywhere on the window you'd like to save.
• A selected area of the screen: A screenshot of a selected area of the screen is saved as a new note. When the cursor becomes a crosshair, drag out a section of the screen. Once you let go, the selected region is saved.

This would be the Evernote Helper app
On my Mac, the icon is displayed at the top in the menu bar

OS Big Sur, V10.4.3, no way to capture an area or window. It doesn't work.
