scott1137 1 Posted November 10, 2020 Posted November 10, 2020 Yesterday (11/9/2000) upgraded Evernote. It appeared to operate okay. Today I restarted the Windows 10 PC. Afterward, I tried to start Evernote. The hour glass comes on for about 5 secs goes off then immediately back on but nothing else happens. I tried running compatibility mode troubleshooter and manually trying Windows 8 and also 7 compatibility mode with no difference in response.
Evernote Expert gazumped 12,630 Posted November 11, 2020 Evernote Expert Posted November 11, 2020 Hi. Evernote is not compatible with previous versions of Windows - it should be fine with W10. It may take a while to load the first time you start it up - it needs to rebuild the database. If you don't see any reaction after giving it a few minutes though, you could try uninstalling and reinstalling the app...
scott1137 1 Posted November 11, 2020 Author Posted November 11, 2020 Thank you. That makes sense. I expected it to show signs of life in a 30 seconds or so. I'll be more patient. I've been using Evernote for many years so it might take while to rebuild the database. I'll check it's out of the compatibility mode and have another go at it. Will report back. 1
Evernote Expert gazumped 12,630 Posted November 11, 2020 Evernote Expert Posted November 11, 2020 Good Luck!
scott1137 1 Posted November 11, 2020 Author Posted November 11, 2020 Thanks. 12 or so hours later and nothing so I went to uninstall it. As I start there's a message saying it's running and asking if I want to uninstall it. I cancel the uninstall. Also, I had three folders in the previous version that were private. I followed the directions saving them then uploading them. Now in addition to the icon for Evernote there a duplicate icon labeled as one of the folders I uploaded. Qs: 1. how long would you wait on the database rebuilding before uninstalling and starting over? 2. What are your thoughts about the second icon of the uploaded folder? [btw, I'm on a free account while I decide whether I want to stay with Evernote or move to Notion. So when I upload my previously private folders I get dinged - I used up 90% of my months allotment because they counted as uploads. Seems unfair; at least not encouraging].
scott1137 1 Posted November 22, 2020 Author Posted November 22, 2020 Ended up uninstalling them reinstalling without further incident. Thanks.
karlzhou 0 Posted November 24, 2020 Posted November 24, 2020 I had the same issue however even after a reboot and uninstall and reinstall it is still not launching for me. I can see the evernote icon in the bottom right hand section of the windows task bar however the application is nowhere to be seen. I can also see that the evernote.exe is running but cannot get the application to open at all.
