(Archived) Where are local notebooks stored?

JonB

Idea

Hi,

I recently had to delete my user account on my macbook and create a new. All the old files (like Library) are still stored in deleted users.

And now I cannot fint my local notebooks created in Evernote.

Anyone know where they are stored?

Thanks

Jon

I can't help for the Mac

In Windows, it is important to maintain backups because, I believe, the local non-sync'd notes are stored in the same database as the sync'd notes.

The non-sync'd notes are not read or stored in the Evernote web / cloud so the only place they are saved is in your local database and your backups.

I had assumed the OP was referring to his local non-synchronized files.

That's what I'm thinking, too. But I'm not Mac either but I did remember Dave telling some people what folders/directories/whatevers to add to Time Machine for Mac backups. So...I'd guess that's where one would look for the Mac files. Hopefully, OP will know where to go from there.

I am referring to the local un-synced notes only.

I do find the evernote folder under Library/Applications support for both my old deleted user and the new one.

The older is bigger, but I can't seem to find out which notes are the local and which are the synced ones.

And I don't want to copy all the old notes into the new library folder.

Maybe I should delete my new library since it is only composed of synced notes and then try to copy my old one into the new folder?

If it's like the Windows app, yes, the local notebooks are in the same file as the sync'd notebooks. One way to do it on Windows would be to either revert back to the old file & export (enex format) the local notes, then go back to the newly created file(s) & import the exex file. But yes, the easiest way is to be sure you've sync'd up all your notes & changes from the current file, then rename the current/new folder (I always hesitate to delete stuff until I'm absolutely sure I don't need it any more), copy the old/bigger stuff over to the new location & then sync all the new notes & changes down from the EN servers.

(Hope this makes sense.)

It works!

Thanks for all the answers guys.

I copied the old evernote folder from Library/Application Support into the same location on the new user account.

All the local un-synced notes are there.

From now I will only have synced notes :-)

Awesome! As far as local notebooks, it's really NBD...you do just have to be sure to include the EN file(s) in your regular backup routine.
