Web Links should open in app when possible

Idea

I was just told by a support agent that it is intended behavior for "web links" to always open in a web browser, even when they are within the same notebook and you click on them within the Evernote for Windows app.

My problems with this:

  • I've created hundreds of these as cross-note links in the previous version (now called Legacy) of Evernote for Windows. They weren't labeled as "web links" at the time, and they always opened within the Evernote Windows app (as I wanted).
  • I could start to use "internal links" instead from now on, but ideally I could just use the same web links everywhere, both inside of Evernotes and when pasting links into external applications. This is how links to Facebook posts work, for example, on Android and iOS -- if the native app is installed, it intercepts and handles those links (falling back to opening in a web browser otherwise). I've never been confused as to why those "web" links opened directly in the associated native app.
  • Regardless, it would take prohibitive time & effort to convert all of my existing web links to internal links by hand, one by one. If this is a permanent product behavior change, I'd at the very least hope for some automated mechanism to convert all of my existing web links to internal links inside my Evernote notebooks.

I won't be able to switch from Evernote Legacy until this is addressed. Anyone else?
