Dictionary is woefully behind the competition and is extremely frustrating.

Idea

I love almost everything about Evernote (I use the windows 10 app) but the dictionary and correction options are terrible. Evernote is a note-taking app meaning a large portion of the user base is students. Because of this, one would assume Evernote would at least make an attempt to have a dictionary that is occasionally updated or at least close to that of other note taking and writing platforms. Both the list of terms in the dictionary and the way the spell checking system works have needed an update for years and yet nothing has come. The dictionary does fairly well in normal circumstances, but in an academic setting it falls short. A lot of basic terms used in an educational setting (certain areas of the brain for example) are simply not recognized as words. Because of this, I spend a lot of time adding real words to the dictionary just so that my notes aren't covered in red underlined words. The spell checking and dictionary systems have actually taken a step backward since I have been using the app instead of getting better.. When a word is added to the dictionary, the spell checking system simply ignores it forever. It does not get added to the spell checking system as a replacement which is standard with almost every other dictionary system available today. It also does not recognize a word added to the dictionary in lowercase if the first letter is capitalized so it needs to be added to the dictionary again. In the time I have been using the app, the ignore function has stopped working entirely. Nothing happens when you select ignore word option. I don't use it often, but it is an example of how behind the times this system is. This problem has been present for well over a year and it hasn't been fixed. In my opinion these issues were not too much of a problem when I started using Evernote because I assumed they were bugs that would be fixed, but after a few years the system has only taken a step backwards. This is ridiculous for a note taking app that should be focused on the user's note taking experience.

There is a certain bit of irony in that I can't even add Evernote to the dictionary. image.png.619ee08baed9ddc87de7fe9f653a4c65.png

This does not bode well.
