theresameyer@timeout.com 1
Hello, the upgrade to the new version of evernote happened on my laptop last night and now I have lost ALL of my notes from the last 3.5 years. Using these forums I found suggested to log on to the web version and also to download the legacy version of the app, but my notes do no appear in either of these places either. There are no .enex files on my computer. I'm not sure if that's windows specific. Are there Mac specific instructions for restoring notes?? I'm *crying* - so much information lost!!!! Link to comment
Level 5 Solution PinkElephant 8,802 Posted October 22, 2020 Level 5 Solution Share Posted October 22, 2020 Most likely you have by accident created a new account. One typo in the user name, and instead of logging into your existing account you get a new, fresh and empty one. This is not due to updating, it is probably just a bad login. Make sure you have the correct account credentials, and log in again. P.S. And yes, it is always a good idea to run backups ... 2 Link to comment
theresameyer@timeout.com 1
you were right, thank you! i had two very similar accounts, apparently. 1 Link to comment
AgnieszkaT 0
I'm facing the same issue after upgrading, all of my notes since 2018 (except for one from February 2018) have disappeared from my account. I've installed the legacy app, it looks the same as my desktop and the web server, all notes missing. I do have another account, which I checked and it has all of the notes but I really need to recover almost 3 years worth of notes on this account. Link to comment
Jason Kelley 0
All mine are gone, 3+ years of notebooks and notes all gone, WTH Evernote. This is ridiculous. I am know I am not premium but you have set forth an expectation. What do I need to do to get my data restored. This is not a user error. Link to comment
AZ3 0
I too have lost multiple notebooks after upgrading. Some of these notebooks go back to 2014, and some notebooks contain irreplaceable documents. This is 100% unacceptable. I used to have confidence in Evernote to securely maintain documents. Instead of improving an application, you have totally blown it up. I shouldn't have to waste my time trying to resolve this issue. Link to comment
Stacey Harmon 1,110
I had this happen to me today on a demo account (basic tier of service). The notebook and stack structure is there, but the notes are completely gone. This is the first time I've logged into the account in v10 and the issue is present on both the web and my Mac on todays release of 10.6.9. My primary (premium) account is fine, as is another demo account I have (also premium). I don't consider this a resolved issue. Should I start a new thread since this one shows as resolved? 1 Link to comment
LostNotes 0
I changed my password for Evernote on my Mac. Evernote version - Version 6.13.3 (455969 Direct) - and now all of my notes are gone. I am logged into the correct account. Need help! Link to comment
Level 5 PinkElephant 8,802 Posted August 15, 2021 Level 5 Share Posted August 15, 2021 You can check on the web client what the status of your notes are. If you are on a free plan, you maybe need to unsync another device. You say you are sure you’re login was correct - I am pretty sure that you made a mistake with your userID. By this you created a new account, instead of changing the password of the old one. Probably you can access your existing data still with the correct userID and the old password. Further you are running on a completely outdated version. 6.13 is not even legacy, it is simply out of service, by any means. Sorry, no help on this. You need to install at least the legacy client to get on a safe footing: https://help.evernote.com/hc/en-us/articles/360052560314-Install-an-older-version-of-Evernote Link to comment
Joseph B Sayers 0
This is the second time I have lost important notebok content after an update on my Mac. All my financial data is lost. I spent weeks repopulating them the last time from pdfs. Evernote needs to get their act together on their updates. I'm furious with this incompetency. Link to comment
Doug Block 1
I have Evernote Personal for which I'm paying. I have Evernote on my laptop and on my iPhone ProMax 13. I recently lost the ability to sync my phone to the laptop, and nothing since March 2024 was syncing. The note explaining why it wouldn't sync was confusing at best, so I upgraded from an older version of Evernote (7 something) to the latest. In the process, I lost every note I've entered on Evernote since March! Some of these notes were absolutely critical, including detailed medical notes. I didn't lose all my notes, so it's not a matter of having a duplicate account with a different log-in. I simply lost all the notes that I wasn't able to sync previously to my phone. How do I recover these now lost notes? As I said, they are CRITICAL! While I'm at it, I can't believe there is no phone customer service at Evernote. Truly shameful when they charge so much for a personal (not even professional) account! 1 Link to comment
Level 5 PinkElephant 8,802 Posted June 17 Level 5 Share Posted June 17 All older versions of EN stopped syncing a while go. There were warnings about it all over - if you didn’t notice them, you basically worked into a local repository, that was unable to sync anything. Basically the version you were using was already deprecated since October 2020. Since then using it meant living on borrowed time. If you are still logged into your old EN client, you can export the unsynced notes as ENEX-file(s). You install the v10 Mac client, log into your account and import the ENEX exports into it. It will create a new notebook for every imported ENEX file, and will immediately start syncing them with the server. You can then tune things by moving them to the correct notebooks. If you however have logged out of your old Mac client, this door has slammed shut. Without server contact the client will not log in again, and refuse to connect with your local notes database for security reasons. Link to comment
