Evernote Web Clipper for Firefox Not Working on Mac

Recommended Posts

OS X Catalina 10.15.5, Firefox 78.0.1

I have not had a problem with this add-on until a few days ago.  Now, when I try to clip a web page, the dialog pops up as normal, I enter the format, the notebook, the tags, etc. Then I click the "Save clip" button and it takes a very long time with the spinning green circle with "Syncing" next to it. After that, there's an error message:

Clipper has encountered an error

Unknown error occurred.

undefined/undefined

Message did timeout

At the bottom of the error message is a link, "Copy Logs."  Here's a typical log:

Follow up question: I just tested Microsoft OneNote Web Clipper and it seems to be working fine. I can't really afford to wait an indefinite time period for Evernote to fix their clipper, so I'm going to switch to OneNote, at least temporarily.

Is there an automated tool that can import my Evernote notes into OneNote?

Firefox 78.0.2, WebClipper Version: 7.12.5.42-bb2fa76, latest Catalina, MacBook Pro 2019 15":

Both EN Web Client and WebClipper are working fine with Firefox on my MBP. Maybe a bit slower than on Safari, but Firefox is known to be slower than other browsers. Currently it is the new Edge browser, followed by Chrome, Safari and Firefox in the speed ranking. But speed is fully acceptable, maybe a few seconds to clip a page like the apple.com landing page, plus a few seconds to move that page into EN.

The clip in the note is fully functional, all hyperlinks working, all pictures available etc.

So if you have problems, they probably can be fixed. I would look up the settings, in the Privacy tab of Catalina, in the Preferences of FF and in the extensions settings of WebClipper in FF.

Interesting.  I'm now in a completely bizarre predicament.

1.  I'm still unable to use the Evernote clipper in Firefox. Nothing I've tried has  changed the behavior at all.

2.  After using OneNote for a bit, I was surprised at how much better it was than when I first tried it. In my opinion, it's now so much better than Evernote, that switching to OneNote is a no-brainer.

3. Microsoft  has a tool to import notes from Evernote into  OneNote.  It's officially no longer supported, and it's not perfect, but it works. What I hope is that if enough people petition Microsoft and express interest in switching, they'll reanimate the project.

Just a shout out, anyone reading this who hasn't fired up OneNote in a while, should take another look; it's a fairly amazing product and it's free.

4. I had not tried out Microsoft Edge until you mentioned it in your post. The Evernote clipper in Edge works for me. If I wanted to continue using Evernote, which I don't, switching to Edge would be an option. It's actually a very appealing browser.

5. Here's the insane thing. As far as I can tell, Microsoft has not produced a OneNote clipper for its own Edge browser.
