Annotate PDF can not click on links or list of content

Recommended Posts

I just started the Evernote premium to use the PDF annotation feature. However, I was frustrated that I am not able to click on the links or one of the sections in list of contents. For example, for a large PDF, I would look at the list of contents and click on the section I want view, provided that the PDF has that function. Also I am not able to click on the links either. This functionality is available in Preview and probably with most of the PDF viewers or annotators. I tried all the buttons and none of them work. Can someone let me know how this can be done?

Right-click the pdf and open in your favourite viewer

Okay, so there is no way to do this simple thing. I think Evernote team should add this as a feature request. Navigating while annotating is a crucial thing as a user especially when the file is long. Many PDF annotators offer the select option that switches it to a viewer mode instead of annotate. If Evernote annotate does not even have the most basic functionality that my default PDF viewer offers then why should I use Evernote’s PDF annotation functionality?

It is a very simple yet common use case. Here is the requirement:

1. Open PDF annotate in Evernote

2. Click a button or so to switch to viewer or select mode so my click on the file content won’t be an arrow or highlight

3. Click on a section on the table of content that PDF allows to

4. Start reading and annotate there

Alternatively, a press of button (say the command key) should also be fine to navigate to a section or open a link. But this doesn’t work either

If you want to open a feature request, you can place a post in the relevant section of the forum. Other users are able to vote for it.

In the current setup you can take it as it is (serving as a basic annotation tool), or use a full pdf editor as proposed by @DTLow . Personally I use pdf Expert both on my Mac and my iOS devices. You can open it directly from the pdf stored in EN, modify and on closing it will save right back into EN.

Okay, thanks all. I was a little puzzled as given PDF annotation is inferior than most competitors why would evernote advertise this as a premium feature.

Anyway, I submitted a feature request here:

EN is sort of a Multitool - capable of many things, but in each discipline not quite as good as a specialized program.

I use the build-in functions for basic workflows. Whenever I need more, I use the „share“ option, open and work in the document with the special app and have it save back to EN when I am done. This gives more flexibility and power than expecting a general use program like EN to offer the same „deep“ functions.
