Problem with internal links to other notes

When I create a link to another note with the "Copy internal link" feature in the Web-Client this link only works in the Web-Client but not in the Mac Desktop Client. When I create the link to the same note in the Mac Client it works in both clients. Looking into the link addresses for the two links reveals that they are identical. What could be the reason?

Looking at the clipboard for both links, I see1996122627_ScreenShot2020-01-23at11_15_11AM.png.f450a9404fc7d012cb35ecc032cb4389.png

When pasted into the note, this url is converted and inserted as
evernote:///view/1156250/s10/77b43c1e-bdf9-4c40-9388-c51721e35812/6284dc7a-93ca-4df2-9918-e286a6df39c3
(the in-app link)

This link is working fine for me in both the web and mac clients

I now did the following on my Mac:

1. I created a new note

2. I opened the note in the web client in Firefox and in the desktop client

3. I now selected the menu entries in both to create a note link and pasted them into a text editor and two different links where created:

Web-Client: https://www.evernote.com/shard/s9/nl/1/4bcd7f17-2457-4cc7-9ba6-50eddcaba8a6?title=Dieses%20ist%20ein%20Test

Mac-Client: https://www.evernote.com/shard/s9/nl/1005834/4bcd7f17-2457-4cc7-9ba6-50eddcaba8a6/

When I now use these URLs as links in a note the first opens the note in Firefox even if I click on it in the Mac Client. Only the second one opens a note in the same client.

How do you "use these URLs"
A simple paste should trigger the conversion to the classic evernote:///view/1156250/s10/7....  link

What I did, pasting into a text editor was to identify the reason for the behavior and the reason is the "1" instead of my user ID in the link. I of course normally directly paste the link into a note. But as I mentioned note links create by the Web-Client don't work in the Mac client. And this happens every time so it must be a "feature".

Yes, you mentioned links "don't work"
Can you post the exact url after it's inserted into the note.
As I posted above; I get  evernote:///view/1156250/s10/7....  inserted, which works in the web and Mac clients

Coming into this discussion late, I did some testing and found the following.

This is a link to the note "TV, cable & otherwise" created from within the Web beta editor:
When created, it had the form:

256102da-dd65-48b7-9df0-058deb1fa7e7

When taken from within the Windows desktop program, however, the link takes the form:

e22a24f0-dcb1-456f-b0ba-dc27f16e65b9

In the Web beta link, the identifier 41621698 has been changed to 1, and the title of the note has been added at the end. This is just as @Stuhrer observed.

However, when that link from the Web beta is pasted into a test note, also in the Web beta, it is transformed into an "evernote:///view" type link, as @DTLow observed:

7da0b0eb-5601-4cb4-99c0-fcf4fee49ab7

This link opens the linked note properly in both the Web beta and the Windows program.
When the "shard" type link taken from within the Windows program is pasted into the Web beta:
it is also transformed into the same "evernote:///view" type link, and opens the note properly in both the Web beta and the Windows program.

Strangely (perhaps), an "evernote:///view" type link to the same note created from within the Windows program looks like this:

24be7e14-88f0-44a5-b571-343bf947b2cb

Pasted into a test note from within the Web beta:
it also works fine in both the Web beta and the Windows program.

Bottom line: the Web beta editor may create links that have a different form from links created elsewhere, but these links do function properly for me, both in the Web beta itself and in the Windows desktop program. (And, for that matter, in the Android app.) In no case, however, can I get a link in the Web beta to open the note in the Evernote desktop program.

btw; that part you quoted is the note GUID

Hi,

First many thanks for your suggestions and trials to find the solution for the problem.

I  now looked more closely into the links that are created by pasting the links created by the Web client and the Mac client into a note. They are indeed both transferred to a link in the format evernote:///view/1005834/s9 where the first number is my user id and the second the shard number. However, there is a difference in the last part of the address. Here are the URLs of the links which I put in a test node "Test Note 1" both pointing to the note "Test Note 2":

evernote:///view/1005834/s9/0041bee7-c015-47eb-94dc-c6fd75390dab/df9444e2-599a-48a2-8e71-4d59ec652b6b

evernote:///view/1005834/s9/0041bee7-c015-47eb-94dc-c6fd75390dab/0041bee7-c015-47eb-94dc-c6fd75390dab

And for me, the first one created in the Web client only works in the Web client whereas the second one created in the Mac client works on both.

What I also noticed is that the green colors used by the links are slightly different. This is most obvious in dark mode. I attached a screenshot.

Assuming this is WRT the link created in the Web beta by clicking the 3-dots menu at top right and selecting "Copy internal link," this is what the link for my test note itself looks like:

image.thumb.png.3cd47d02564db4e3dfdb30bd58c1e9c5.png

That's a screen cap from my clipboard manager, since I'm trying not to paste in an actual live link. It is the https://...shard type.
