dtwhite 9
I've gone in to try out the web beta a couple of times (I'm especially keen to try out the new search functionality, and I like that the web version will now show PDFs inline). However, just viewing a note (without making any changes to it) changes the note "last updated" timestamp. I always sort my notes by last updated descending, so this bug means I can't afford to use the beta web version at all for the time being. If I do, I'm going to have a pile of notes which I've just viewed at the top of my list, upsetting my organisation. I'm fine with the "updated" time stamp changing if I edit a note, but it's problematic if I am just viewing a note. I remember there used to be a similar bug in the Windows client version a few years ago, but it's long since fixed. Link to comment
Level 5 Dave-in-Decatur 4,006 Posted October 29, 2019 Level 5 Share Posted October 29, 2019 That does sound problematic. I just checked, and I'm not experiencing it. I do know that more than once, in going between browser tabs, I've accidentally typed into a note because the editable area was in focus, unbeknownst to me, and that of course would be an "update." Any chance that could be it? Link to comment
Level 5* s2sailor 2,458 Posted October 29, 2019 Level 5* Share Posted October 29, 2019 I'm seeing this as well, but not with every note. It looks like it is trying to save every note that is viewed. In the lower right corner of the note window if I see "Saving..." then the date is not changed. It is like it is trying to save but doesn't complete and therefore the date is not updated. On other notes I will see "All changes saved." On those notes the date is updated. In both cases I am just viewing notes and not editing. I can't tell why some notes complete the save and others don't or why they are being saved at all since I'm only viewing. Also, I see no way to edit the date using this web version. Link to comment

Yes - that's exactly what I'm observing too. Just viewing a note kicks off the "saving" notification in the bottom right hand corner. It's messing up my notes; I've stopped using the web beta version until this bug is fixed. It's a shame as I'd like to give the new search features a proper test drive. Link to comment

May L 53
@dtwhite @s2sailor Thank you for the feedback. We are sorry you guys are experiencing this issue. We need to determine the situation that is giving rising to this behavior. Can you guys please share with us the exact steps you took when experiencing this issue and screenshots if available? It would also be helpful to know which version of the note editor you guys are using. At the bottom right, there should be a box that says "Classic Editor" or "Beta Editor". We look forward to hearing from you guys. Link to comment

On some, on the bottom right it will show Saving..., those notes do not get their date changed. On other notes I will instead see All changes saved. On those notes the date would be changed to the current day. That said, I'm currently on Windows using Chrome and cannot replicate the problem. Some notes still show Saving... and others show All changes saved, but the date is not being updated. It was on Tuesday using Brave on the Mac where I saw the problem. When I return home I will try again on the Mac to see if I can reproduce the issue. I haven't tried since Tuesday. Link to comment
Level 5* s2sailor 2,458 Posted October 31, 2019 Level 5* Share Posted October 31, 2019 Just to confirm, I still see this on the Mac with some notes. It does not appear to be consistent or at least as consistent as I noticed it a few days back. Link to comment
May L 53
@s2sailor @dtwhite Many thanks for your feedback. After investigating, we did see this issue on the new web client where notes with PDF files attached would update the date when the user just viewed the note. We fixed the issue and it will be released next week. Would you guys be able to give the web client another try next Friday 11/15 to see if you have any further issues? We appreciate your help. Additionally, if you have seen this issue beyond notes with PDF attachments or beyond the web client please let us know. @s2sailor per your comment above, are you saying you experience the same issue on Mac? Yes, on the Mac, but while using the new web client with Brave browser, not with the Mac client. I'll see if I can reproduce this again after the 15th. Thanks for investigating. Link to comment

Sorry for the delay in coming back on this. Thanks for identifying the problem. Will check back on Friday and see if the issue has disappeared. I think what you have mentioned in the bug in question. Looking at the issue again, it does appear to be solely notes with a PDF attachment. I have a very large number of notes with PDFs, so hence I probably thought every note was impacted. I have not seen the issue on any other platform; solely web beta. Link to comment
Level 5* s2sailor 2,458 Posted November 16, 2019 Level 5* Share Posted November 16, 2019 @May L, fyi I just checked today and the timestamp changing problem still exists. It does appear to only affect pdf containing notes. Link to comment

May L 53
@s2sailor @dtwhite Apologies the release was delayed and it was just released yesterday. Can you guys check again? It should be good now. Link to comment
Level 5* s2sailor 2,458 Posted November 19, 2019 Level 5* Share Posted November 19, 2019 @May L, yes, this is with the web client only and I'm using the beta editor. Correct, this issue is happening on view. No search was involved. 1 Link to comment

I checked it on the web beta on both a Mac and a Windows PC, and the note is now no longer getting updated when being viewed. The "updated" time stamp is therefore no longer being interfered with. Thanks for fixing it. 😀 Note - if I decide to change the PDF format between attachment, full-preview, or page-through-preview type, then the note "updates". I'm not sure if that's intentional behaviour or not. 1 Link to comment

I also don't think changing the view option should update the date. I think that should be for content change only. Link to comment

It's simply a display preference. Link to comment
