Ios handwritting notes get lost if screen locks.

Maybe I’m going mad, but just started using evernote again on ipad pro.  It seems to me that if I have a handwritten page - e.g. Taking notes whilst in a meeting, that if the screen locks, when you unlock the screen the handwritten note has not been saved.  This is massively rubbish if true.  Any advice greatfully received.
