Search on iPhone for "foo" does not find "www.foo" - but works on Mac

I use both a Mac and an iPhone.  Just realized that some of the search results do not produce the same outcome.

Eg:  I recently did a search for entries about the website "netflix" and found 10 notes via the Mac implementation, but only 9 notes on the iPhone.

Finally realized that the Mac implementation successfully finds "netflix" in a note containing "www.netflix";  the iPhone implementation fails to find it.

a.  I would expect the results to be the same on the two platforms.

b.  And it makes more sense that search would match "foo" in "www.foo"....so the iPhone should be like the Mac.

Is "foo" representing something?

In the software world, "foo" is a generic place-holder for a variable or some arbitrary name.  So, as far as I can tell, Evernote search on iPhone fails to match the second word in www.Netflix, www.Amazon, www.Google -- i.e., for all value of foo it fails to find foo in www.foo.  (But search does find foo in www.foo on the Mac.)

Each device has it's own search index and there could be inconsitencies.

I would expect a search for "netflix" to only be accurate for text strings beginning with netflix, nothing in the middle or end

I didn't know that, Ive heard other ways of doing that, but thanks for explaining.

Well.....

a.  Evernote wants to be an attractive cross-platform app.  I understand that implementations may vary a bit (e.g., iPhone has a smaller screen, and touch);  but that doesn't mean that basic functionality should differ.  We don't expect some notes or notebooks not to appear on the iPhone, and individual notes should not fail to appear in a search on an iPhone.  As a first principle, the results should be consistent on the 2 platforms.

b.  And, assuming different implementations should be producing consistent results, I do think it is better to treat a period as a word break, and match a word following a period.  This will help find more words in web names, www.foo.fie.com;  it will also help a user searching for a word where he has failed to insert a space.  For example, if a user has accidentally entered "...end of sentence.New sentence..." I would like to have a search find the word "new" [this is how the Mac works today!].

You could post a request in the IOS forum to upgrade the indexing
                        or a request in the Mac forum to downgrade the indexing
