C21 0
I can't update to the newest version and it's been like this for a while (two months at least). I get an error message stating that my user name "is not a valid short file name." Then another window pops up that says "(.\Bootstrapper.ccp.981)0x643:Fatal Error during installation". I don't pay for Evernote here so I can't put in a ticket. Do I just have to look for a new program to use and stop using Evernote? We use Windows 7 Enterprise - is that the problem? That's a corporate decision (not mine). Thanks in advance for any advice! Link to comment
MatS14 19
I have the same problem, but I think its just the age of the computer I use, If your computer is pretty old, then that could be why it won't update. Link to comment
C21 0
I don't think that's my issue, our computers were replaced about a year ago. Are you on an older version of Windows too? Link to comment
Ex Employees Austin G 527 Posted April 3, 2019 Ex Employees Share Posted April 3, 2019 Thanks for these reports. To confirm, does the same error occur if you download our latest update from here: https://evernote.com/download/? If you see the same error, please confirm the version of Evernote installed on your PC: Select the Windows + R key to open the Run Window. Type "Control Panel" > OK Select **Uninstall a Program** Confirm the Evernote Version displayed there Link to comment
Kimsman 1
Austin, I am running 6.17.6.8292 (308292) Public (CE Build ce-62.1.7539) on a Windows 10 64-bit platform. There is no option under Help to "Check for Updates" Link to comment
Kimsman 1
Austin, The version I put in my previous post was copied directly from the "About" option on help. However when I use your suggested method I get this: Hope this helps Link to comment

You can't update that - it will update when a new version is pushed (from us) to the Store. Link to comment
Kimsman 1
Thanks, dconnet. I don't understand why I get different version numbers from the Help - About and from the Uninstall. Link to comment
dconnet 529
It could be that you have both the direct download and Store versions installed. Which gets started depends on what you click (and what's currently running). It would probably be best to just uninstall everything and start over with the version you want... Link to comment
Kimsman 1
Thanks. That cleaned it up and, because I downloaded the version from the website, I have the "Check for Updates" button. Link to comment
