Attachments will not stop expanding to in-line view

No matter how many times I click "view as attachment" all of my attachments of seemingly any file type expands into the in-line view at seemingly random intervals. It's making it absolutely impossible to work on my notes using my standard work flow. Why bother having the view as attachment setting if we can only view files as attachments transiently?

 

Am I missing something? Tried all the sign in sign out tricks to no avail.

Which interface is this: Windows program, Mac, iOS, Android, Web interface? In the Windows program, even though you've signed in and out, you might try completely exiting the program (File > Exit, not the red X box, which only closes the interface), then restarting it, or rebooting the computer. This often clears out errors that have gotten stuck in the program's memory.
